Today we’d like to introduce you to Shyon Haghpeykar.
Shyon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin 6 years ago, I quickly entered into the world of real estate, which was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Coming from a family that was in the building business, I remember being on jobs sites from an early age and was always fascinated by the process of building a home from start to finish. Today, I work closely with many luxury builders in the Houston area and I enjoy bringing the pieces together to build a home that someone can enjoy their lives in. My approach to real estate has always been focused on people and building relationships wherever I go. I do my best to get to know my client’s lifestyle and needs as well as possible so I can guide them into the right home and situation for their family. Being a native Houstonian has also allowed me to get to know the city very well and I always keep my eye on not only what has sold but the trend of constructions in the area including new restaurants and amenities that are on the horizon. Building the right relationships has always been of utmost importance to me in my career and I feel lucky to work alongside some of the best builders in the city and learn from them on a daily basis. Furthermore, I look at every deal as a way to get to know my clients more personally and I always pay attention to the smallest details so I can find the right home and situation for their family and lifestyle.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Obstacles and challenges present themselves every day and I think that is a key to growth. In order to get to places you’ve never been, you have to try things that you have never done, and that opens the doors to new challenges and opportunities to learn. There are always challenges that present themselves in the building business such as setbacks with timing, contractors not showing up, and having to think outside of the box to deliver the best product and home possible. Furthermore, when my clients are buying or selling a home, there can always be obstacles that arise last minute at inspections or unforeseen issues in a home that can quickly change the entire deal. I do my best to deal with all challenges placed in front of me with a level head and focus on being a problem solver to find the most economical way to address the issues at hand and save my clients time and money. Today, I look at all the setbacks or challenges I have faced as a blessing and opportunity for growth because although it was uncomfortable at the time, it forced me to learn more about the business to try to find new ways to succeed and ultimately made me a better realtor and builder. I believe the key to facing obstacles and challenges in a healthy way is to keep the same mindset and faith in yourself as to when things are going well. There have been times in my career when a home has stayed on the market for longer than expected and that opens the door for doubt about the product, especially for builders who have invested a great deal of time and money into building the home and would ideally like to have it sold as quickly as possible. For me, it is important to continue to believe in your mission and have faith in what you are doing during these trying times, and in retrospect, they have always allowed my entire team to learn more about the market and what people are looking for in the added time that the home is not selling. In the long run, we have looked at these setbacks as blessings and opportunities to learn and they ultimately ended up helping us as we were able to learn more about what people were looking for in a home.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Compass Real Estate?
I work as a luxury realtor and builder in Houston, TX. My true passion is understanding people’s lifestyles and needs so I can assist them in buying, selling, or investing in real estate. Being in the building business, I understand what goes into the construction of a home from start to finish and I believe that information is powerful when it comes time to buy or sell a home. When selling a home, my team and I do open houses every weekend, use all the tools available to market it, and can bring in the most trusted contractors to have it fixed up and add value before it hits the market and maximizes a client’s profits. I assist buyers and sellers in every stage of their lives from first-time homebuyers to experienced investors, and in price ranges from 400k to 6.5 million. For me, it has never been about selling one home but about building long-lasting relationships and am always by my client’s side every step of the way and I feel honored to be referred to others after the home is sold. I also frequently connect my clients with experienced contractors to fix up their home and get it ready to put on the market or help them do maintenance after the home is sold. I do my best to get as personal as possible with my clients so I can understand how a home can fit their needs best. Focusing on establishing authentic relationships and looking at every deal as a way to connect with someone on a deeper level has given my work and life meaning and I enjoy the work I do every day since I get to work with people and be involved in their family life to help find or sell their home.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
As my father always told me, happiness comes from “establishing authentic relationships” and I live by that principle every day. Even in my work life, I try to focus on how I can become closer with my clients to understand their lifestyle, needs, and personality to best serve them into the right home. I believe that if your relationships are healthy, that is the first step to a successful and healthy mindset and nothing is more important to me than having peace of mind and true authentic relationships in life. I try to surround myself with uplifting people that have the same beliefs and principles as I do and I try my best to inspire people every day through my actions. I also believe it is important to have a drive to do something bigger than yourself and see what is possible in life so you can have purpose every day when you wake up. I enjoy keeping myself busy doing something that I love and am passionate about, and I feel lucky that I get to help people in the process and hopefully improve their lives as well. Having authentic relationships combined with a desire to achieve more and help others in the process leads me to find happiness every day.
