Meet Simonpeter Emokpaire of MindRestorative Psychiatry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simonpeter Emokpaire.

Hi Simonpeter, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Dr. Simonpeter Emokpaire, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC—a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founding clinician at MindRestorative Psychiatry, an outpatient behavioral health practice serving individuals and families across Texas, Oregon, and Tennessee.

At MindRestorative, we provide whole-person psychiatric care by combining evidence-based medication management with close collaboration with therapy and supportive, non-pharmacologic approaches like CBT, DBT, and wellness-focused care. Our mission is simple: to make accessible, compassionate, and culturally attuned mental health care the standard—not the exception.

I was born in Nigeria and moved to the United States in 2002, settling in Houston, Texas. I began my healthcare journey from the ground up as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), then became a Medication Aide, LVN, and RN, earning my ADN and BSN along the way. I later completed my MSN, became a PMHNP-BC, and most recently earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Northern Kentucky University in December 2024.

This wasn’t just a professional climb—it was a personal mission. I’ve always been drawn to mental health because I’ve seen how often people suffer in silence and how powerful it is when someone finally feels understood. MindRestorative Psychiatry was created out of that vision: to offer more than medication—to offer hope, clarity, and a path to whole-person healing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The path hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been deeply meaningful. As a first-generation immigrant who moved from Nigeria to Texas in 2002, I started at the ground level of healthcare as a CNA and worked my way forward step by step—Medication Aide, LVN, RN, and eventually becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and earning my doctorate. Each stage required learning a new system, proving myself in new environments, and staying committed even when progress felt slow.

One challenge was building credibility and stability while juggling real-life responsibilities. There were seasons where I was working full-time, going to school, and still showing up for my family. That’s not just a professional challenge—it’s emotional and financial too. You’re trying to excel, serve patients well, and still be present as a husband and father.

Launching and expanding a practice while completing doctoral training was another major stretch. It meant balancing clinical care, business operations, compliance across multiple states, and the mental load that comes with leadership—while still maintaining high standards and protecting patient safety. It required relentless focus, discipline, and faith.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MindRestorative Psychiatry?
MindRestorative Psychiatry was founded with one clear mission: to make comprehensive, compassionate, and culturally sensitive mental health care accessible to all—especially individuals and families in underserved or overlooked communities.

We currently serve patients across Texas, Oregon, and Tennessee, offering both in-person and telepsychiatry services to ensure flexibility and access—particularly for those in rural areas or with limited local options.

What sets us apart is our collaborative, trauma-informed approach. We treat a broad spectrum of mental health conditions—including ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders—with a focus on functional recovery, not just symptom suppression.

Our services include:

Comprehensive psychiatric evaluations

Medication management across the lifespan

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorders

Integrated support for co-occurring conditions

Coordination with therapists, wellness coaches, and case managers

Telepsychiatry for flexible, statewide access

We’re especially known for our expertise in ADHD diagnostics and treatment. My doctoral research focused on improving patient satisfaction and diagnostic accuracy in adult ADHD assessments using objective tools like QbTest—advancing more equitable, data-driven care.

MindRestorative is also proud to work with a range of insurance partners to reduce cost barriers and increase access. We strive to create a judgment-free, empowering care environment—whether we’re serving professionals, parents, college students, or immigrants navigating life transitions.

At our core, we’re about human connection—meeting people where they are and walking with them toward healing.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is this: you don’t need perfect conditions to build something meaningful—just purpose, consistency, and faith.

As an immigrant starting out as a CNA in Texas, I didn’t have many advantages—but I had a deep desire to serve, to grow, and to make mental health care more human and accessible. Every stage of my journey—from vocational nursing to doctoral work—taught me that progress often looks like small steps taken faithfully over time.

I also learned the power of collaboration. You can be the most clinically skilled provider, but without a team and a system of care around you, the impact is limited. Healing happens when providers connect, when patients feel heard, and when care is integrated across disciplines.

And finally, I’ve learned that leadership is about service—to patients, to your team, and to the communities that trust you. It’s not just about solving clinical problems; it’s about building structures that make care more equitable, sustainable, and rooted in dignity.
