Zharkynay and Altynay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Zharkynay Issabekova. I am a wife, a mother, and an entrepreneur originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan, and presently residing in Houston, Texas. In the bustling streets of Almaty, Kazakhstan, my sister Altynay Tokocheva and I embarked on a journey that would lead us to create a beloved local coffee spot. Starting with just one cozy coffee shop fueled by our shared passion for entrepreneurship, we soon expanded to three thriving locations across the city. However, despite our success, we craved for something greater, something beyond the borders of our homeland.
In 2022, life took an unexpected turn when my husband was accepted into Rice University in Houston, Texas, to pursue his master’s degree. With a mix of excitement and bittersweet emotions, I made the difficult decision to leave behind my sister Altynay and our flourishing coffee shops in Almaty. As we settled into our new home, I couldn’t shake the entrepreneurial spirit that had driven us back in Kazakhstan. It was then that I saw an opportunity to embark on a new business venture in our adopted city.
Fortunately, I was connected with Elena, a businesswoman and co-founder of Superb Maids. Elena, along with her childhood friend Nargi, established the company in Las Vegas back in 2015. Inspired by their vision and values, my sister and I decided to align ourselves with this esteemed brand and acquired their license.
And thus, Superb Maids Houston was born, dedicated to providing top-notch and professional cleaning services for both residential and commercial properties.
In early 2024, Altynay, together with her family, finally joined me in Houston, marking a significant milestone in our entrepreneurial journey. With our combined efforts and dedication, we can take our business to new heights and serve even more clients in the Houston area.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As my sister Altynay and I embarked on opening Superb Maids in Houston, we faced numerous obstacles and challenges along the way:
1. Navigating a New Market: Transitioning from the coffee shop industry in Almaty to the cleaning services industry in Houston was a daunting task. We had to quickly learn about local regulations, market dynamics, and customer preferences in our new city.
2. Establishing Local Partnerships: Building relationships with local contractors and service providers was crucial for our success. However, establishing trust and credibility in a new city took time and effort.
3. Recruitment and Training: Hiring and training a reliable team of cleaners in Houston presented its own set of challenges. We had to ensure that our staff members met the high standards set by Superb Maids while also overcoming language barriers and cultural differences among team members.
4. Building Brand Awareness: Introducing Superb Maids as a new brand in the competitive Houston market required strategic marketing efforts. We faced challenges in gaining recognition for our brand and competing with established cleaning companies in the area.
Despite these challenges, Altynay and I remained resilient and committed to our vision of establishing Superb Maids Houston as a leading cleaning services provider in Houston. Through perseverance, strategic decision-making, and dedication to excellence, we were able to overcome these obstacles and build a successful business that continues to thrive in the competitive Houston market.
