Thanks for sharing your story with us Slim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since I was little, I’ve always enjoyed cooking. Fast forward, I attended Prairie View and majored in Business because I knew I wanted to work for myself. So, I combine my passion with my degree and my catering company was formed. Stepping out on faith and starting my company was hard, however, it has been very rewarding.
Has it been a smooth road?
There have been several obstacles even to this day. I’m constantly learning, and growing in the industry. With almost every event, I learn something new. Starting off the biggest obstacle I faced was the need to be “social media famous.” I focused more on people seeing my company then my company growing. Once I changed that mindset and focus on other markets, my company has taken off. Small obstacles I faced were time management, quality service, and presentation. Cooking great food is easy, it’s the small things that surround the food that sometimes makes running the Catering company a challenge.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I have a mobile catering company that caters all events big or small. From 300 plus weddings to five persons book club meeting. We offer full service at all events. On top of that, I also offer meal preps, private catering, and kid’s cooking class.
Right now, I am known for my delicious brunch. My fried chicken wings and red velvets waffles are unmatched. Not to mention my creole style shrimp and grits.
I believe my approach to catering is what truly sets me apart. I have a saying which is “cooking for the culture.” Which allows me to create and meet the new vibes of my peers while still providing great service and even better food.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
With our city being so large, I feel it’s a great place to start.
There are endless opportunities to do what you love here because there is literally always something happening.
Also, there are so many different markets you can target your business too and still be successful.
