Today we’d like to introduce you to Sommer Hausman.
Sommer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2010 I found myself a divorced mom of 2 and a decade out of the work force. After being a stay at home mom and volunteer extraordinaire for ten years, I didn’t feel very hire-able!. My degree was pretty out of date by that time, and I had no relevant work experience. I met a woman who told me she was a real estate agent, and she talked me through her experiences as an agent and what the career had meant to her. I was initially drawn to the ability to create my hours, be my boss, and that there was no limit to my income potential. I started real estate in small town Alice, Texas in 2010, moved to Corpus Christi, Tx in 2011 and finally ended up in The Woodlands, TX in 2013. I moved every two years since 1996, and for the first time, I do not want to move anywhere else- ever. I LOVE it here and have been working in this market for six years. I have four children, ages 16, 13, 7 and 5. And as they get older, it seems they get more expensive. :). I love what I do, and I love that I can provide for my family doing something I enjoy so much. I love the people I meet and the shared experiences we have; helping people realize their dreams is so fulfilling, and I treasure all of my relationships with clients, past and present. It is truly my pleasure to work hard for them.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I suppose there are always struggles along a worthy path. In a career that is solely commission based, fear of failure was a big hurdle I had to overcome. Fear of the unknown, fear of the what-if, fear of falling flat on my face with kids in tow. I have been blessed with a fantastic support system by way of friends, family and coworkers who do a stellar job lifting me up when I am down and helping me believe in myself and see myself as they believe in and see me. In 2014 I was thrown a giant curveball when we discovered my last born had a previously undiagnosed congenital heart defect requiring open heart surgery at seven days old. That resulted in me taking a step back from building my business and focus completely on my family. I kept my license current and worked mainly in referring to other agents, but thankfully he is just amazing, and I was able to resume full time career building in 2017.
Please tell us about the business.
We are Hausman Home Group. Residential real estate for all of your buying, selling, investment property and rental needs. I really pride myself on my personal relationship with each of my clients. Home buying or selling can be due to a few quite emotional reasons. We have the highs of someone working hard and finally realizing their dreams after years of sacrifice, the lows of losing a family member, and being forced to sell the home. As a result, the life changes with divorce or having a baby; so many reasons and so many emotions. I experience these things with my clients. I treat them as though they were my own family member and exactly the way I wish someone would treat me and those I love. I believe in relationship real estate where we have people over profits. The people are at the heart of my story, and that is where I find my joy.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
So many people deserve credit, and I am afraid to leave someone out! I have had unwaivering support from friends, family, and colleagues. I adore my brokerage and the opportunity and support I have gotten from CB&A has been amazing both personally and professionally. My family certainly takes the brunt of the fallout from mom working full time, so I definitely could not do it without my husband’s and kids’ patience and support. A solid village makes all the difference!
