Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Navarro.
Sophia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2004 I was an independent makeup artist searching for ways to make more money. I took Nova Lash’s second-ever eyelash extension class. Before I knew it, I was booked solid with lash clients, and the demand continued to grow. So, the Lash Company was born, one of the very first salons in the country devoted exclusively to eyelash extensions. From the beginning the Lash Company has focused on quality, safety and employee loyalty. That combination has provided the foundation for a successful business in an industry that is becoming increasingly competitive.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Beyond the normal challenges that all small businesses face, the Lash Company also had to overcome the many obstacles inherent in a new industry. When Lash Company opened eyelash, extensions had little name recognition, so consumer education was critical. Similarly, potential employees had little to no experience in the field. And as often happens in a new industry, existing government regulations were vague and ill-suited.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Lash Company – what should we know?
Although the eyelash extension industry has experienced impressive growth over the last decade, it is far from being a mature industry. There is still a substantial amount of misinformation about extensions and many new clients do not know what to expect, or more importantly what they should expect. So, consumer education is fundamental, but Lash Company has to practice what it preaches.
The experience that I have acquired from my years as Nova Lash’s Master Trainer has allowed me to provide The Lash Company’s extensionists with intensive training far beyond what other salons offer. When the Lash Company hires new extensionists , they spend months learning and practicing before they are ready for paying clients. Clients can be assured that when they come to the Lash Company they will be serviced by a highly skilled, highly trained extensionist using state of the art techniques.
Safety is also paramount. The Lash Company uses every safeguard when servicing our clients. As a precaution, we refuse service to clients who may have an existing eye condition which could be aggravated by extensions. We also periodically have all our staff attend a presentation by a doctor of optometry.
