Stacey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Go back over a decade and I was working for Spa Nordstrom at the Houston Galleria. Nordstrom is known for being on the front lines of fashion and beauty and at that time spray tanning was just a whisper of a buzz in the beauty industry. Nordstrom decided to bring on spray tanning and I was soon seeing an endless line of clients interested in getting the latest in a ‘designer-tan’.
Little did I know that there is a very select clientele in Houston that likes to BE tan, but those same clients don’t want anyone to know they GET tan; those clients started asking me to come to their homes to discretely provide spray tanning services…. and GloGirl Spray Tanning was born! Fast forward to today and GloGirl is still providing a ‘designer tan’ to a growing number of haute-Houstonians!
Has it been a smooth road?
Our biggest challenge at GloGirl is that there is still a stigma linked to spray tans turning people a strange shade of “orange”. Let me be the first to assure potential clients that spray tanning products and the application process have truly evolved and it is almost impossible to turn a client that aforementioned strange shade of “orange”. At GloGirl we ask a series of questions to 1.) get an idea of what each client is hoping to achieve out of their spray tan. We want your tan to look real and encourage clients to also have realistic expectations.
And 2.) how does each client’s skin react in the actual sun. This detail gives our technicians an idea of how much melanin you naturally have in your skin which tanning solution that will best meet your needs but will also still make YOU look like YOU. Our technicians also take into consideration your hair and eye color, as well as if you’re tanning for an event or professional photos or a special occasion or specific attire. Our goal at GloGirl is to provide a flawless spray tanning experience. We view each client as a walking advertisement and the best faux tans truly go unnoticed.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The spray tanning industry is swiftly replacing tanning beds and the harmful effects of outdoor sun exposure. Clients are health conscious and skin-savvy and demand an alternative way to achieve a sun-kissed appearance without the harmful effects of UVA/UVB. Clients also expect a customized service by trained technicians as opposed to the ‘vending machine tan’ where you step into a booth and press a button; recall the Friends episode of Ross and his unfortunate, yet comical spray tan.
