Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Croft.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I founded Sugar Mill Chiropractic in 1996, fresh out of Chiropractic College. I had worked in the industry for 6 years, before college and all through it, and decided I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I obtained an SBA loan and was off and running! The office was expanded 3 times going from 1400 sq. ft. to eventually having just under 6000 sq. ft. and adding such services as Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, Naturopathy, Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression and Physical Therapy. I owned the company for 18 years and then sold the practice to Dr. Tara Parker and Dr. Linda Huynh — who have carried on the legacy!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are challenges in every business but overall we have had a fairly smooth ride. We try to treat people as we would want to be treated and I think that has aided us in our success. Owning any business is a balancing act — providing superior service while still running the business in terms of staffing, financing, marketing, etc.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are an all-female doctor Chiropractic office — the first female owned chiropractic office in Fort Bend County. We provide a variety of “alternative” healthcare services but our primary is Chiropractic. I am most proud of the cohesiveness of our office. We have long-term staff members who have been here since nearly the beginning — this is unusual in our industry as there is often a lot of staff turnover. We transitioned from my ownership to Dr. Linda and Dr. Tara almost seamlessly and retained the majority of the staff and patients during the transition.
What were you like growing up?
Probably a know it all! Ha! I was very focused and driven. I liked school and people. I began working at 14 years old because I had too much time on my hands. I was the editor of my high school newspaper. Not very athletic.
