Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Fitzmorris.
Stacy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had such a hard time finding a wedding photographer in my area that I loved. I finally found one in and her work resonated with me. After the wedding, I decided I wanted to learn photography and offer it in my area.
I knew what I loved about photography and that was seeing powerful, emotional imagery come to life. I’ve now been doing photography as a full-time business for a year now! I’ve been so lucky to create for beautiful human beings who appreciate art and trust me with their vision. It’s been an amazing journey thus far.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh gosh. It’s been SO challenging. From learning to use a camera properly to learning the ins and out of photography (you never stop learning) it’s been quite a ride. Having to work for free or next to nothing so you can learn and have something to establish a business on. That’s tough. Families can’t live off of free anything. It was getting passed that and finally bringing in a substantial income that made all the hard times worth it.
Please tell us about Stacy Fitzmorris Photography.
I am a natural light photographer that focuses on honest and emotional imagery. I want images to be natural but also true to the time, place, and subjects. I think that’s what sets me apart most. Still, life images are not for me and that’s what attracts my clients.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Haha, I’d have to say when I was a 4th grader and I had to write what I would be when I grew up. I said a fashion designer. While I never went to college for it, I did teach myself to sew and sew well! I had not one clue I would ever be a photographer!
