Stefanie , let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far
I have always looked for a safer way to achieve a natural bronzed glow. I’ve never really tanned naturally. I have very fair and sensitive skin. Before my first daughter was born, the dermatologist found two spots on my back with squamous cell carcinoma. Now, over the last 12 years, I have yearly skin checks, as well as, watch my exposer to the sun. I also have an autoimmune disease that makes me sensitive to the sun. I was determined to find a better way to achieve a tan, other then self tanning lotions or booth sprays. We all know how hit and miss, not to mention, stressful, those booths can be. Five years ago, I discussed the idea with my husband, and we both agreed it was a great opportunity; however, it wasn’t the right timing with our girls being small and my husband’s travel schedule. Fast forward three years later, now both girls are in school, and I am giving this my all! Let’s do it.
Has it been a smooth road?
Some of my challenges are balancing family, as a working parent. Being a mobile business can be challenging, which makes time management and scheduling extremely crucial. I make it a priority to accurately schedule appointments within appropriate time frames so that I can service my clients effectively and meet their needs. I have set business hours, but I try to be flexible on a case-by-case business.
Tell us more about the business.
I own a mobile airbrush tanning business that provides a luxury service to the Katy/Greater Houston area. I think what sets me apart from other businesses is that I carry top of the line products, as well as solutions, for every skin type. I offer traditional, rapid, and clear solutions to meet individual client needs and preferences. I recently added drying powder, which takes away any stickiness.
We live in Houston, where it is hot almost year-round. My specialty is knowing what products work best with my clients skin tone and type. A traditional solution, which is worn for 24 hours, is mostly alcohol based. These aren’t always the best product for our hot climate, and most clients do not want to “marinate” for 24 hours. The days of having to sleep in your airbrush tan are over. Now, with the evolution of rapid tanning solutions, within 1-3 hours, you can rinse and go about your day without worrying if you will compromise your results. I also carry clear solution, which doesn’t have bronzer in it. I have this in rapid and 24 hour rinse. This solution is perfect for brides or my clients, on the go, who come tan during their lunch hour or have an event later that night.
Some clients, like myself, have dry skin and need a more conditioning solution – that’s where alcohol vs. aloe/water based solutions come into play. I also carry tan safe products, such as body wash, soap, and lotions. The industry is always evolving, and I pride myself on keeping up with new products, techniques, and advancements. Next year, I look forward to adding body contouring to my services.
