

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Evors.
Steve, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We opened in 1998, I’m an owner operator and I’m still the only one who answers the phone today so people can always talk directly to the owner. Thank God we survived the ’08 mortgage meltdown when many other movers went under. It was a tough time on Houston, but we’re still here and growing. I think the email I sent will be much more helpful and is a lot more entertaining than what I’ll be able to put here. This is just the nuts and bolts stuff.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We started out in ’98 and grew every year, until the housing crisis in 2008. We nearly lost everything. People were spending their savings trying to save their homes and when they exhausted that, they had no money left to hire movers. They were mostly turning to U-Haul, Penske, etc. It was an industry wide collapse that affected a lot of businesses like ours. I spent what I saved, borrowed what I could, and then just waited it out. Starting over meant not just finding new customers, but rebuilding credit that was now all but shot. Slowly business started coming back so I went to apt. complex managers, storage managers, etc. and handed out business cards purchased from what was left on a credit card. Thank God we slowly started growing again and we’re about back to where we were. It’s His grace and love that kept me here and has us growing again. Hopefully we’ll have another twenty years and more!
A1 Absolute Movers – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We move household furniture in Houston and across the state. We do mostly residential moves, and we’re known for being owner operated and being in the same location for twenty years. I’m proud of our reputation of being a friend to our clients before, during, and especially after the move. What sets us apart has to be customer service. I say “has to” because we work for it. That is our goal. We want them to be happy with our work, but I take the most pride in hearing our clients say how nice and friendly the crew was while doing their job. That’s what separates us from being just a company you hire to move your furniture.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Repeat customers. We treat people the way we want to be treated when we’re the customer. We only charge what we say we will, and only the time we said we would. We want people to say when the job is finished they made the right call. Only when the job is done will the client know this, and we love hearing from them after we’re finished. We want them to be glad they hired us and to tell the people they’re close to about us.
