Meet Steve Sosa of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Sosa.

Hi Steve, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started listening to music at an early age. I have always loved music. As far as playing guitar I started later in life. I started around age 20. My friend gave me a Mel Bay guitar chord book and I sat in my room and that is where my journey began. I practiced those chord diagrams and I had so much fun because I was doing something I loved. I never learned how to read music notation but I have a good ear. Through the years I have always found myself drawn to the acoustic guitar it just feels so natural. After years of playing a friend said I should record some of my acoustic pieces. He said he would record me and I was ecstatic. We recorded the record titled Day’s End and that was so much fun!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
After we recorded Day’s End we were planning on recording a follow up. I did record more acoustic pieces but we put them out more sporadically. It was not for the lack of creativity by any means but time. I have more time now so I am sharply focused on releasing more music. I have a small home studio where I record and I can email wav files to my music engineer and we can get the songs finished at a nice relaxed pace.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have never thought of playing guitar as work. Music makes me feel connected to everything. My guitar pieces are solo pieces with no words. I would like for the listener to hear my music and be able to paint their own picture from the song. If I play a song for friends I do not tell them what I was thinking about when the song appeared to me that way they get their own vibe from the song. Everyone always has a different interpretation of the guitar piece and that is awesome. The Day’s End record was a great accomplishment for me because I never thought in my life that I would ever have put music out in the world. As far as guitar playing everyone has their influences but you hone in on your own style. I love using alternate tunings because it gives you that atmospheric feel and you can find beautiful sounding chords. I have been working with my engineer because new music has been appearing to me a lot lately. I word it this way because I do not know music theory and music for me seems to appear organically. I really do believe I have some great new music on the horizon and I am looking forward to sharing those pieces in the near future.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would like to say always be true to your craft and your craft will always be good to you. Keep an ear open for new music because I am working on a new record and planning to release it by the end of the year or early 2027.
