Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Grant.
Steven, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a portrait artist for many years so I’ve always had attention to detail in faces. About 9 years ago I picked up a camera and started taking photos of my wife. For years I practiced on her… to the point of where she was sick of me asking her, haha. Then other people started asking me to take their photos. It snowballed from that point on.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the beginning of any new creative career, It always takes time to find your niche and build your clientele. After about 5 years of part-time photography, I made the scary leap of quitting my job in Title Insurance and a steady paycheck to becoming a full-time photographer with a paycheck that fluctuated depending on the number of clients I had for the month. Keep in mind I am married with 2 children… needless to say It was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made… but It paid off and I’m certainly glad I did It.
Please tell us about Grant Foto.
I found my niche in pageant headshots. I love the glamour that is apart of pageant looks… It took me a while to break into the pageant world because it’s a very close-knit scene. The girls have to trust you and there is a very particular style associated with pageant photography. As the years have gone by I’ve been lucky enough to win several photogenic awards in numerous systems which I’m super proud of.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think I would do anything different… I think I did everything exactly how I was supposed to. Everything fell into place at just the right time and I’m so very grateful.
