Stevie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started in photography as my means to create, I was never any good at drawing or even painting but I always knew I was an artist. When I picked up a camera it was my way to create. I started off shooting whatever I could just to learn my camera and the fundamentals of photography. Years later I started transitioning into beauty and fashion because that’s the genre that allowed me to be as creative as I could.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been easy but I definitely appreciate the journey. Some of the struggles I faced was staying focused on my specific genre of photography, the number of true beauty and fashion professionals is very limited.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Stevie D. Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in Beauty and Fashion photography which is the core part of my business. But I’m also an educator and film director. Also, I’m the owner of Vision Light Studios (www.visionlightstudio.com) which is a photo studio rental in Houston, TX. The thing that sets me apart from others is I tend to stick to what I do best and try not to follow trends. Most people who hire me say they love how easy and comfortable it Is to work with me.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck, I’m a firm believer of you get what you work for. Although life sometimes isn’t fair you have to learn to move past it and keep working towards your goals.
