Today we’d like to introduce you to Stinson Mike.
Stinson, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in the mid 80’s after working for my grandfather right out of trade school in building construction at Texas State Technical Institute, and a few other Building Contractors until the bottom fell out in the mid 80’s and was forced to start up my own company at the young age of 25 years. I was blessed to have had some great owners that I worked for and I never burnt a bridge. I was young aggressive, and a very hard worker that did what I was asked to do and much more. I was the youngest superintendent in build for this one hotel chain where I cut my teeth and made very large decisions and work along men that were 2 -1/2 time my age and gain respect in the building industry. After building 2 very large projects the company closed down because of the market in the early 80’s fell apart and construction halted. So my past employer had a friend whose house caught on fire and while I was looking for a job and doing small jobs on my own asked me if I would like to take on this project on……. So I worked with the customer and the State Farm Insurance Company and got the job back in June 1986 and was able add on an extra room and come in on budget and never looked back since. I did some major remodels in Bellaire, West U., River Oaks, & Memorial. I started into the Home Show market all that same year when it came about showing our work off and I had an older gentleman with a Window & Door Manufacturing company come up to me and ask me why don’t you try the door and window market, and by then I had a very small showroom in Stafford Texas just minutes from South West Houston where I grew up in.
So the very next home show came around I displayed my custom made cabinets & counter tops, tile work and my brand new door & window line…… We had a record breaking Home Show after that and 31 years later were still going strong, the showroom has grown 10 times larger and we have been at the same address and with the same phone number…. I have been more than blessed to have met some of the greatest people and customers over the years and many high profile people. We still do business the same ole school way and will continue that path. Our customers come first and always will, without them I would not be here. I’m doing work for my customers kids now that some weren’t even born when I did the parents job. I sent a whole new generation grow up from wearing diapers to getting married and having their own kids. I still feel like I’m 25 years old every day I walk into my showroom. I’m so blessed to have the very best business and working team in history, we have the best crew in the history of Cambridge Doors & Windows and having more fun than ever. Our Cambridge Doors & Windows family is solid and strong. It’s been a fun journey looking back at when I started with myself and 2 other guys working out of a tow behind trailer to having our showroom at the same address for 31 years. Every day I walk into the show room is a brand new day with a new feeling. God is good.
Has it been a smooth road?
My Obstacles at first was being so young in the business trying to show my customers I was good at what I did and please give me a chance, so I come naturally to me and always produce a great product every time.
Challenges were to learn more in a market that there was only a couple in it and they were much older and would not give out any advice. So I was self-thought, and learned the business the hard way by trial and era.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is a great city for anyone wanting to do a good job with a great product, I see so many people doing business, and letting someone else run their business. If you want to succeed you must be a hand on owner. Our City needs to improve on the roads, it takes too long to get around town.
