Meet Sylvia Blanco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Blanco.

Hi Sylvia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Although I always found myself doodling in class and sometimes for friends, I did not start painting until later in life, 10 years after graduating from high school to be exact. A coworker gave me a paint set and that changed my life. I started to teach myself how to paint, then develop the confidence to participate in art shows and events and I just kept doing it. It has been a little over 10 years now since that paint set gift, and a lot has happened. I am now a full time artist, I’ve had amazing opportunities and experiences, I have changed personally and professionally and I have worked very hard on developing better skills to provide better work. I have had opportunities to work with amazing artist, companies and organizations. I often feel very grateful and lucky to be able to do what I love. The last few years I have focused mainly on commission work but slowly working my way back to also work on new personal work.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been smooth, but once you have a goal in sight and you have made a commitment, it helps to navigate through obstacles. Taking responsibility for your actions and working on the things that will help your business grow facilitates the journey. For example, I was not a morning person, I have a fear of public speaking and sometimes I can be an introvert. Those are just a few things I knew I needed to work on and so I did. The key is to be kind to yourself during the process because when you are establishing a foundation for yourself, it takes a while to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. I have had the opportunity to face a lot of my fears along the way and with time you do start to develop a better understanding when self-doubts, hesitations, or fears pop up.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a visual artist, and I paint indoor and outdoor murals and also canvas paintings.
