Meet Symone Wade of Marked Beauty in North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Symone Wade.

Symone, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up watching my grandmother as a Beautician. I was at her salon every Saturday, all day long helping her shampoo clients, and taking rollers out of their heads, putting them under the dryer all while getting my hair done in her free time. So naturally, I fell in love with it. I loved how you could make someone smile by doing their hair and making them feel beautiful. I prepared my whole life to be in high school, taking cosmetology classes, only to switch schools, and that became a barrier, But I didn’t stop there. Marked Beauty isn’t just a name; it is a Movement. It’s who I am. The Background to the name came from when I was diagnosed with vitiligo at 13. People always use to say, “I love your beauty mark,” and when I started to try to come up with a name that stuck with me, and so I became Symone Marked Beauty.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve dealt with depression for most of my life, so when things got too hard id give up, I’d walks away from it, id change course because for others it was coming so easy. There is no doubt in my talent. I feel like my depression just kept me at a stand still. After participating in the skin im in gala and exhibition I decided to quit my job in August 2019 on a whim, I decided to take a leap of faith after almost ending my life. I was finally ready to be happy, to go for my dreams, and to eliminate fear from my vocabulary. The road has been tough. There were weeks when I wouldn’t have any appointments, constantly trying to give discounts to get more people in my chair, all while still being expected to pay rent for the suite I’m in. Then my car is breaking down and having to spend a little bit of money on that. But God has had my back throughout this whole journey. I love doing hair. I Love the beauty industry. It’s my passion, and im good at it. Things are finally taking off In the right direction. Taking that leap of faith has surely bruised me up a little, but I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. I know God has something big just waiting for me.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My Business is Marked Beauty Salon/Sap. I am a Hairstylist/Braider. I specialize in All Braids, Natural Hairstyling, as well as Maintaining and growing out healthy hair. What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an introvert being that I was dealing with depression for most of my childhood. I didn’t just want to do hair, but I knew I was destined to Be a successful entrepreneur. The only thing that was holding me back was the days I couldn’t get out of bed, the constant fear of succeeding/failing, and just questioning myself about being good enough. I started young doing hair, but I wasn’t as confident in myself. One of my dear friends showed me the ropes. She taught me everything I knew about hair while in cosmetology school, and I just decided to keep progressing and getting better.
