Today we’d like to introduce you to Taijah Miles.
Taijah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing my own hair last year, mainly faux locs and braids. Since then I’ve watched YouTube videos to help me perfect them as well. Many people begin to notice my talent and ask why I don’t do others hair, I would always say “well I don’t do others hair but my own”, I was always scared to go out into the world. But one day I was with a friend and she asked me if I wanted to start a hair page on Instagram and I actually thought about it, asked my parents and did it! When I put my work out my mom’s friends and people I didn’t know started to book! I can say that this has helped me become confident in my work and in myself especially as a young African American teenager in times like this.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a smooth road but it hasn’t , when I first started doing my own hair I would always say “ this is easy “ , but doing it on other people i don’t know I would get extremely nervous! Timing is also another struggle, often times my hairstyles may take up to 6 hours which is tiring but I keep going!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sanaydiorexperience story. Tell us more about the business.
I am an upcoming hairstylist, even though this is not what I want to do for a living I love doing it as a teen! I specialize in hairstyles such as faux locs! And hopefully other styles soon as I begin to expand my brand. My slogan is known as “prettygirllocss “because of The beauty affect it leaves on young women. I’m most proud of me being confident in myself and actually doing something that I was always afraid to do. What sets me apart from others is I run this alone! I’m young of course only 17 years old and I’m unstoppable, I may have doubts in myself but I know I will always get the job done!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Honestly, I don’t necessarily believe in “luck” growing up it was always “faith”, so honestly my “luck “is my “faith”. Every good thing that passes me by I don’t look at it as good luck, I always look at it as that was the faith that I had in myself and whatever I prayed for I achieved it. The only bad luck that has played in my life is just the frustration before any appointment.
