Today we’d like to introduce you to Tam Ellis.
Tam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved to entertain and decorate. I started decorating for friend’s weddings many years ago. Then it went from “can you make this dish” “and that dish”?? I looked up and all of a sudden I was a Wedding Planner doing everything from finding the venues to catering the events…..LOL.
After a few years of that, I decided all I wanted to do was cater as I knew I loved to cook. I also loved to witness the joy of people’s faces once they tasted my food. So my husband and I put our heads together, came up with a game plan to purchase my catering supplies, started getting the word out to family and friends and doing some marketing and the rest is history.
Once I got fully invested and started getting more Catering jobs, I knew this is what I was supposed to be doing. At last, I found my calling!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Taste of Southern Creations has had some challenges along the way, mainly finding my audience – I wasn’t quite sure where to fit in. Once we started developing our niche and building our brand along the way, it has helped to overcome those challenges. We now understand our market place and continue to thrive in the Catering Business.
I don’t know if this would actually qualify as an obstacle but I recently just lost my Mom and I thought I didn’t want to ever Cater again. Then I remembered just how proud she was of me for starting this business and how she thought this was the absolute BEST thing besides having my son…LOL, that I could have done. So as I move forward, I will make it my mission to honor her memory. She is the reason I started cooking in the first place as a young girl!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Taste of Southern Creations – what should we know?
Taste of Southern Creations is a self-made company that was started with a simple passion of cooking delicious foods and socializing with friends and family. TOSC is created on hand down family recipes, mostly from scratch with a distinctive savory flair. Based on my traditions of down home cooking and having a great imagination, TOSC will continue to keep serving you mouth watering delicious food for years to come.
I am the CEO of TOSC. I also am the executive chef. I can make whatever dish your taste buds desire but I specialize in Cajun/Creole dishes. I am quite known for my Gumbo, Banana Pudding and Cajun Pasta dishes.
I am most proud that TOSC has been able to help provide hot meals to people who would not have been able to provide food for themselves and their families. It feels good to make a difference to the less fortunate. That is something I will always be proud of. Having this business has made it easier to give back, even if it is just a meal.
I’m not quite sure what sets Taste of Southern Creations apart from others. I believe everyone has their own special talent that makes them good at what they do but if I had to pick something, it would simply be…..Sincerity and Honesty. We stand by our word!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I can cook!!!…..LOL.
We take pride in providing a friendly caring service to all our clients and potential clients. We try our best to treat everyone with dignity and respect! Listening to what a client wants is 100% key.
