Today we’d like to introduce you to Tangie “DJ TNT” Bryant.
Tangie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started DJ-ing in college about 15 years ago, much love to LU (Lamar University) and the entire Golden Triangle. In college, I enjoyed attending the parties but I didn’t dance much so the DJ caught my attention. So, I would make my way to the DJ booth and look at out to the crowd and be amazed at how the DJ controlled this group of people by their song selection and at that moment combined with my love for music. I decided that I would come to a DJ and my next refund check, LOL. I purchased some equipment. Djing has been such a huge part of my life. It has been a journey of ups and downs. There were times when I thought I was going to quit. My love for the craft and art of music was too strong. I just had to find my lane and for the last seven years, I have been the premier DJ for comedy and poetry shows in Houston. Thanks to my guys, Ken Boyd and Carlos Wallace.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Since everything is male-dominated, that is a hurdle. Promoters not believing you can carry a crowd, so I was forced to prove myself early. Another struggle was that I never had a mentor, so everything that I’ve learned about the craft and the business side has been on my own. Being self-taught has a huge learning curve and suck for a longer time.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the TNT Unlimited story. Tell us more about it.
TNT Unlimited is my entertainment and production company. I am the CEO and head DJ. We specialize in creating memorable moments. I am currently expanding my services adding Audio engineering, sound rental, location sound and more. I am most proud to have a company. I feel that my emphasis on building relationships sets my company apart from others. It’s not all about the money. I want my clients to be overly satisfied with the entire interaction, want them to use our services again and refer TNT Unlimited to others.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The underlying industry of djing in technology which is always evolving. I see nothing but growth that includes cool new gadgets and improvements to the craft. I can’t think of any big shifts bigger than going from carrying DJ crates full of records to a laptop and a hard drive.
