Today we’d like to introduce you to Taresa Klentzman.
Taresa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m from a small town in Georgia, where the moss hangs from old oak trees that canopy over the roads. And the aroma in the air smells like sweat hickory. As a child, I was always singing & dancing around the house, and day dreaming of becoming a famous movie star. When I became a teenager, I found that I had a knack for cosmetology and photography.
I started doing hair, makeup and photography out of my mother’s home and around my hometown for friends & family members. I became very busy and popular very quickly. I would also make my own accessories and clothing & wear them to school and around town. I was always complemented on my style, encouraged to be the best I could be and I have always been creative, bubbly, outgoing and humble.
In 2008, I received my cosmetology license. Soon after I started creating Outta Da Box Cosmetics & Accessories, and also rekindled the passion I had for photography. And now I’m in this wonderful position of doing what I love, networking and enhancing beauty everywhere I go. And using my product line to do so. What I know and am passionate about is beauty, style, fashion, my line Outta Da Box Cosmetics & Accessories & This is what I offer to you.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. it has not been easy. I have struggled with insecurities, strife, sickness, doubted myself and been doubted by others. It’s not easy to believe in something that no one else can see. (except those closest to you)
I’ve been told to go buy drug store or dept. store brands like everyone else.
I’ve been doubted in my abilities
I’ve lost friends and still I keep climbing and reaching towards my goals.
I started this line because I was tired of not being able to find my shade of foundation. I also wanted to create more handmade products to add to the line with Outta Da Box packaging.
I was also tired of wearing the same identical accessories as everyone else. I would go out with colleagues and notice we were all wearing the same accessories, some just in different shades. I wanted something “Outta Da Box” something that stood out, looked great on was custom
made and affordable.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Outta Da Box Cosmetics and Accessories – what should we know?
I’m the owner of Outta Da Box. A handmade cosmetics and accessories line.
All cosmetics and accessories are created and handmade by me. The statement pieces are all unique and are not for everyone. But for the ones that love standing Outta Da Box like myself these are great.
I’m proud of everything about this line. It was a lot of hard work, time and patience. To be honest I never stop working on it I’m always creating and mixing etc.
I think what sets me apart is that I do this by myself (of course my husband and children help out.) From product to packaging from sales to mobile artist.
I’m not a global brand I’m a small-time business owner/entrepreneur. But one day I believe I’ll be more.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being transparent, honest, reliable, accommodating and having affordable prices. I feel in order to really be successful you have to put yourself out there to be judged. But you also have to remember where you come from and be hands on at all times.
