Hi Tarik , thank you so much for sitting down with us again. For folks who might have missed our initial interview, can you start by briefly introducing yourself?
My name is Tarik Rever. I am a disabled model, singer song writer, and equal rights activist. I also make wearable assisted technology for the disabled. As a disabled model I am honored to be the spokesperson for Social Bleu. It is a app designed to help disabled people find each other share our experiences. It’s beautiful.
What inspires your modeling?
I am inspired by the Victorian era, Asian cinema, the goth culture. The amazing David Bowie also inspires me.
How does it feel to be the spokesperson for Social Bleu?
It’s an honor. Everyday there are so many disabled people that express how great it feels that there is a app just for us. Being disabled myself I understand how it feels to not be treated like everyone else.
Now that you have reached this level of success what new goals have you set for 2021?
I look forward to hopefully working along side more organizations like Know Rare and Devices 4 the Disabled. The more organizations work together the easier it is to help our disabled community. There is also some really innovative upgrades to the wearable tech for the disabled I am developing in 2021. My career as a model and influencer is expanding in 2021. I look forward to wearing more designs. This year I modeled for the designs of Kuden and Punk Rave. In TRU magazine I was featured with my wife Liz Slusz Rever. We both modeled Kuden ethically made kimonos.
How does it feel to be able to help disabled people with the wearable assisted technology you created?
It is beyond moving emotionally for me. I am so thankful to use my own technology to help add more mobility to someone’s life. There is so much that can be done to advance this technology. Every month it gets better. If I get more funding it will spend up the process to the point this tech will be everywhere and for a lower cost. What inspires you when creating your music?
Every joyful and painful moment in life adds contrast. It builds a deeper sense of what really matters. I pull from that when starting the creative process. Then it takes on a life of it’s own as the emotions flow into song.
Does your mission of true equality influence you as a painter?
Yes, My mission of true equality fuels the brush strokes. There is so much unrest and upheaval in the world. Most of it springs outward from individuals thinking their pain means more than someone else’s so they justify taking something away from others. When I paint I try to show the essence of the human experience. That we all deserve happiness.
