Meet Tarik Rever

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tarik Rever.

So, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I always wanted to help people. I also loved all forms of art. Visual arts, modeling, music, dance, and literature. It became clear to me that art is a universal language. I sold my art at galleries and started to branch out to designing fashion. I had a great epiphany when my sister introduced me to the Houston Artery art center. There they held fundraisers to help people in need while they celebrated the arts. Soon after, I joined other fashion designers and we showcased our fashion for PBS filmed at the Houston Artery. After that, my career became all about creating ways to help causes while developing art.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For a great while, I also danced and performed with the cast of Monsterz and Phantom of the Opera at the Hobby Center. Part of the proceeds went to various charities for children. I made guest appearances for music videos. The physical side of art suddenly stopped all at once after becoming disabled in a wheelchair from Myasthenia Gravis. There was a moment of disarray for so much of my work demanded such a high level of energy.

Sometime after, I started to adapt by exploring more of the modeling aspect of social media. I already had an online presence from all the work I had done. Realizing the possibilities, I began to model for companies that celebrate the arts and promote positive change. Sometimes I model in my wheelchair to save energy during photo shoots. Other times are leaning against a cane or sitting down. To my surprise, people have been really understanding and my career in a model, fashion designer, activism, and as an influencer all flow together now! On June 18th, 2020, I was listed as one of the top 20 influencers of 2020 for fashion by Influencer. A month before that, I became the official spokesperson for Social Bleu. Social Bleu is a new innovative app that provides a new environment for those that want a safe space. Whether you feel too isolated from social distancing, are disabled like myself, have anxiety, or depression Social Bleu welcomes people to build true connections. I understand how it feels to be different and I am happy to be the spokesperson for something that really helps people on this scale come together.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Here are some of the areas I specialize in. I am the spokesperson for Social Bleu. Fashion is freeing for me so I am a fashion designer as well as an inventor making wearable devices for the disabled. I model for several brands and also use my modeling to promote equality.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our Social Blue app is already doing amazing on iPhone and very soon available for android as well.
