Meet Taryn Smith of The Bar Queen πŸ‘‘

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taryn Smith.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taryn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I officially started my business at a low time of my life. No one would ever guess but I am a licensed funeral director. I have been in the funeral industry for ten years. I was working at a funeral home in Katy and my boss at the time did not want to support me in advancing my career. So I took a leap of faith and quit, during the time I was unemployed I decided to start my bar Queen business. I have always loved entertaining and making drinks, I would always host parties or bartend other parties at no cost. I said now is the time to make this happen. I started my business in February 2019 and obtained my LLC in December 2019 with my mom backing me all the way as silent partner. I have always been a go getter and I knew I would have an event business someday just didn’t know exactly what it would be. I am still dedicated to my original passion of being a funeral director and I have a degree in forensic science. I am a woman of all traits. I am in management in the hospice industry by day, on the weekends I turn into my alter ego β€œThe bar Queen”.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The first couple of months were booming, I have a lot of support from my close family and friends. My best friendΒ Lauren Kirkland helps me with my marketing, she has done an amazing job helping me. Having a full-time job during the week and then clocking out and heading to the store to prepare for the weekend sometimes is a lot. But overall we have been pretty steady, I would love to have more business but I know it will come. At the present time with the COVID-19 pandemic, I have had a lot of cancellations that we can’t control. I am now offering virtual bartending classes and Togo drinks that is going pretty well.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The bar Queen (and yes the b is lower case) is a mobile bartending service. We bartend private events, parties and we decorate and plan as well. I am known for creating a great signature drink!! I come up with super creative drinks that are to die for or I can recreate your favorite drink from any restaurant. What I am most proud of is that I work with my partner, my best friend and my family. They all help keep this thing going and support me with everything. What sets me apart is that I am a blast to have any event, I am very sociable and I can make your party a success with drinks and decor. When you are hosting an event, the last thing you want to do is have to worry about making drinks all night, let me do the work!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always with the grown-ups. Everyone tells me I have an old soul. I literally get along with ANYONE at any age. I have best friends twice my age. My parents and I are extremely close. My Interest were always forensics and murder mysteries. My dad is who got me into making drinks as a hobby, he would always want me to make him and his friends drink so that he can host. It was always a good time at my childhood home. Fun fact I did not drink at all until I turned 21, I would just get everyone else drunk.
