Hi Tasha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Moving Box Co was born when me and my family made the move to a suburb of Houston and I single-handedly built and subsequently broke down 100+ cardboard boxes. I could not believe the amount of time that took me and the waste I had created! I could not find an easier and more sustainable solution in Houston for moving boxes but fell upon other reusable moving box solutions in different parts of the country.
I decided to create this for the Houston market. 1 year later, Houston’s response to Moving Box Co has been incredibly welcoming. We sold out multiple times and had such an overwhelmingly positive response from Houston – we couldn’t have been more grateful and proud of this city for taking steps to go ‘green’.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I never expected that being an entrepreneur would be a smooth road so I was always ready for what would come my way. Starting this business during the COVID-19 pandemic brought many challenges with the supply chain, inventory, and a slower housing market. But everything worked out in the end, despite our launch being delayed a few months.
I have learned so much along the way about being an entrepreneur. I taught myself how to create a website and made my own which I am so proud of! MBC marketing is mainly done through word-of-mouth which is awesome because it helps keeps our operational costs lower. At this point, we don’t do any marketing. Our entire model is based off word-of-mouth and repeat customers. We are at a point where we need to decide if we should scale larger, because I think there is appetite for it not just within Houston but even outside of Houston.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Moving Box Co?
A lot of people know Moving Box Co around Houston now as the ‘sustainable moving solution’. We deliver reusable moving boxes to the customer and pick them up when they are done from their new home/office. The whole service is meant to be extremely easy for the customer. After all, no one likes the moving process, so why not make the packing process as easy and as ‘green’ as can be? We are a small, family run business. We know every client by name and they feel that comfort & warmth from every touchpoint with us.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I have never believed in luck. I think hard work, dedication, and a passion for a cause are what bring success. I truly believe when you care for a cause, it doesn’t feel like work. Our whole team has put in their blood, sweat, and tears into Moving Box Co and it shows. The entire process is centered around customer service.
