Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa L Staley.
The artist known as T. L. Staley – is a Houston based artist, was born in Australia and grew up in the Katy area.
Teresa always grew up around art. Her father, Roy Staley, has always been an inspiration to Teresa, as her father was always painting beautiful landscapes and owned a sculpture business for some time.
Teresa has a degree from The Art Institute of Houston, graduating with honors with a degree in Visual Communications.
At 15 years of age, while still in high school, was the protégé to a well-known fine artist in the Houston area learning about the business of fine art and murals then later progressed to the position as an art director.
Teresa has many years of experience as a fine artist, faux finisher and muralist. She has been commissioned to paint many works for her clients doing different subject matter such as abstracts, pet portraits, landscapes, murals on canvas and mixed media art.
TL Staley has worked for different design firms and artists in the Houston area and has vast experience working alongside interior designers, builders, realtors, and architects. She has handled large-scale projects both commercial and residential.
Currently, TL Staley owns her business Murals & Faux By Design for 20+ years.
Staley’s latest venture is being curator/partner at Art Machine Gallery at The Silos on Sawyer, Studio #223. She is enjoying representing local artists and connecting the artists with collectors.
Teresa is involved in many art shows displaying her fine art in the Houston area and collaborating with other artists.
Following her education and working career, she has traveled extensively throughout America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Teresa has also done many art projects abroad.
“I find inspiration for my art in my travels; I get immersed in other cultures with all of the colors, unique designs, architecture, interesting faces and personalities of the people from other lands.”
“My art is continually evolving found through life’s experiences, observations, and experimentation with many different mediums. My greatest joy is to paint, draw, design and create in many different forms without limits. My life’s work has been in the arts; this is what I know and love best.
The genre/style of Teresa L. Staley’s fine art could be described as eclectic, merging romantic fantasy and realism.
She mainly works in acrylic and mixed media.
Her favorite subject matter includes powerful women and mixed media abstraction.
Teresa admits her “greatest joy is to create art in different forms without limits.”
Her hope is that you will be inspired and feel a special connection with her art.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
I recently read an article from the Huffington Post that was in my opinion, very practical and realistic advice for emerging and young artists getting into the business of art.
The article was entitled “12 Pieces of Advice For Artists More Practical Than ‘Follow Yor Heart”.
My favorite advice from the article and my own personal experience is that having a career as a professional artist is just like another job.
When I am talking with emerging artists, I stress that whether you are exhibiting or selling art in a commercial gallery or starting a business as a muralist or faux finisher (for example), is just like any other profession.
In order to be successful with a good reputation as an artist, means working hard, honoring deadlines, working well with your clients and trusting your co-workers to do their jobs well too.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
