Meet Terry Balleza of Rose and Eve Photography in East End/ Central Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Balleza.

Terry, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always craved to start my own business. When I was in Elementary school, my dream was to open my own sweets food truck. Once I was at The University of Houston Downtown, I knew I needed to further my knowledge in business, so I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Unfortunately, bills and life hit all at once, so I put aside my goals to work a steady job at a law firm. I knew that working for someone else just wasn’t for me so after some ups and downs, I decided to make a change. My first business venture began with my online boutique, Rose and Eve Boutique. As an investment for my boutique, I purchased a camera so that I could take professional pictures of the clothes. It turned out I enjoyed taking pictures of the clothes more than selling the clothes. At this point, I knew the boutique wasn’t meant to be, but I couldn’t abandon the work I put into the business.

However, one of the biggest factors that pushed me towards leaving the boutique behind was a photographer in Paris who captured my engagement in December. She moved to Paris with her husband and both worked in something they were passionate about. She was a full-time photographer and he opened his own restaurant. Although I had invested quite a bit in the boutique, I knew it wasn’t my passion and hearing her story pushed me to take a chance. At the start of 2019, I decided to put the boutique on pause and work on starting my photography business. It’s been over eight months now and I’m enjoying every step of the way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new business is never easy but nothing worth having is ever easy. I’ve had many bumps along the way and had to learn the tough way how to get over them. Everything from pricing, editing, and marketing has been a learning process. One thing I learned is to never give in to the voice inside your head that says you can’t do it. I’ve taken my time to perfect my photography business and will continue to do so. You never stop learning when it comes to photography.
