Meet Terry Williams of The League: Elite Training Facility in Garden Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Williams.

Terry, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started off as a personal trainer and instructor of common fitness formats like spin, kickboxing and boot camps. I always had a desire for working with athletes and eventually developed a side business of running off-season training programs for collegiate, pro and Olympic athletes. One day, I decided to start my own gym and bring these athletic strength & conditioning principles into the group exercise environment! That’s where we made our mark in founding The League. We decided on a system that gives the average fitness enthusiast access to pro drills, in a modifiable format that accommodates all levels.

Has it been a smooth road?
In the early stages, we certainly struggled to establish clear brand identity and stand out in the crowd of other fitness formats. It also took a while to build up clientele, but now four years in, my wife/business partner Ashley and I couldn’t be happier! Our fitness family has grown and we feel very blessed for that.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The League: Elite Training Facility – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are the only group exercise facility in Houston that sources 100% of its drills from what teams do in practice. This brings a dynamic of fun to fitness! We do it in a very socially engaging way, fostering team work and community. Everyone in our classes ends up rooting each other on, instead of competing. I think we’ve also made a name for ourselves around town for our playlists, which Leaguers describe as “lit”. We have a lot of fun and really get after it!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love everything about our great city! Houston really rallied together recently in the wake of a terrible flood event caused by Hurricane Harvey and showed the world what the power of neighborly love can do. I suppose I could put mosquitos in The dislikes category, but everything else, from beautiful people to TexMex food, to an incredible gym scene, I love!
