Meet Thaddeus Allen of Touch Method Massage and Body Works in Galleria Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thaddeus Allen.

Thaddeus, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We are physical beings. I have always found it easier to express myself in a more physical way. I feel it allowed a certain honesty while competing in sports in school.

As a young man, I looked for ways to use that quality to help others. I have had the pleasure to serve as an EMT where I learned about the extremes of medical conditions and the struggle to stay alive despite a body failing. I wondered in what ways could I help people before they got to this point of frailty. As a personal trainer, I worked to understand the limits of my clients one on one. In the beginning, I found I could make some small difference that gradually became huge life-changing differences.
Health and wellness are at least partially dependent upon the desires of the client and their professional guidance resonating with them on a personal level. I decided to take a leap of faith and began my own company “Blue Flame Fitness”, which evolved to “Touch Method” when I incorporated the massage element. When I added in massage I felt complete. In a direct way, I am able to express my complete knowledge of the body.

In one 90 or 120-minute session, I am able to improve my client’s experience with a touch completely customized for them.

I’ve matured and learned so much about the healing powers of touch and positive expectations because I’ve been given a rare opportunity and I only hope I can use every massage to express my sincerest humble gratitude.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I love to working with clients directly, that’s why I love massage therapy so much. Honestly, I find it hard part of my job to be presenting the value of a well body to my prospective clients. If I try and convey that you can feel more well, stronger, more balanced most people think that you have to feel worse to get there, the “no pain no gain” strategy. My goal is never to “hurt” or “re-injure” a client with super deep tissue techniques or overly aggressive training regiments. While some clients may have the very specific nerve or muscle issues, my personal goal is that every client should feel good EVERY MASSAGE ALL THE TIME! If your pain is at 9, taking that level to a 7. No therapist can “fix you up” all in one session, but what we can do is to provide relief of tension and increase of endorphins, which will begin the natural healing process. Your body needs to know when it’s time to recover. When a client dedicates time for a massage, it tells your body that it is time to heal. The hardest part of my job is convincing new clients that they deserve to feel better.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I remember a time when I got lost in Disney world. Yes getting lost in Disney world is one of my most fondly remembered childhood memories. I was mistakenly separated from my 8th-grade orchestra group and was left distraught somewhere around space mountain. I had no idea where to look, where to go, what to start doing to make the situation better. A park employee found me and asked what was wrong, and defeated in my own mind I told him how I was lost and would be in trouble and how my life was over once the director found out.

He opened my eyes for the what seemed like the first time when he said, “will you be in trouble no matter what you do?” “Yes,” I replied. “Then you should at least have fun, no point in sitting here waiting for bad things. It’s Disney world! Have a good time and when you find your group does your best to not lose them again.”

In that one moment, I learned that perspective dictates so much of who we are at any given moment. I learned that as long as I am trying my best and looking for the best outcome I can always hold my head up high. Making mistakes is not the end of the world. I make mistakes to this day but I learn from each one and make them a positive for myself.
