Today we’d like to introduce you to Thecia Jenkins.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a domestic violence advocate and provide training for law enforcement, victim advocates, healthcare providers and educators. About eight years ago, I was approached by the Texas Council on Family Violence to do some contract training for victim service providers on the topic of cultural competence.
While traveling across the state, I began to get request other types of training focusing more on soft skills for staff development such as managing conflict, communication and leadership. My company was born as a result of meeting the needs of today’s workplace.
Today, I still continue to provide advocacy to survivors of domestic and sexual violence; and have grown my business to include keynote, training and coaching. I am a certified DISC trainer, Mediator and coach practitioner. I work with individuals and organizations to help them increase self-awareness, develop growth mindset, connect with clients and manage diversity in the workplace so that they may meet their organizational mission and yield strong profits.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes, definitely it is a challenge to manage a part-time business while having a full-time career. However, I am passionate about empowering women, men and children to pursue a life of happiness and stability free of violence. My business Bold Profession Seminars & Consulting is an extension of equipping people to be successful in spite of trauma (i.e. violence, loss of loved one, loss of their job, managing difficult people in the workplace, etc.)
At the end of the day whether advocating for survivors of trauma or survivors in the workplace, it is fulfilling to walk an individual or organization through the process of pursuing their best self.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I help individuals and organizations with issues related to interpersonal skills, communication and diversity. I am a certified DISC trainer and I administer the DISC to ascertain people’s behavioral style so that they develop a level of self-awareness on how they may be presenting themselves to their peers, supervisors and subordinates. The purpose of this is to create effective teambuilding.
In today’s global environment cultural competence is a skill that is required for success. I provide cultural competence training to address issues beyond race, ethnicity and origin. Issues such as generations in the workplace, gender equity, behavioral styles and different educational and social backgrounds are conversations that help organizations to be successful.
The ability to manage one’s self and their relationships is also critical; and I work with individuals and organizations on developing their emotional intelligence.
What were you like growing up?
I was an introvert and still am very much an introvert. I loved reading and spent my free time at the local library. I also loved spending time with adults and learning from them.
