Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Hilliard Alexander.
Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started as a vision in 2018 while pregnant with my second born child. I knew I wanted to build a brand, a legacy for my children. I want to break generational curses and start entrepreneurship with my family. My husband and I talked and then prayed about it. The scripture Habakkuk 2:2 says, “Write the vision down and make it plain”. So, that’s what I did, and one day came up with the name Nu & Harp, which are the nicknames we have for our two daughters, Nubian and Harper. After Harper was born, I put things in motion to trademark the name, obtain a tax ID and an LLC.
In April 2019, I launched my online boutique, Nu & Harp Boutique! We are dedicated to making our customers feel and look fabulous with trendy, fashionable merchandise for children and adults at an affordable price. In addition to the online boutique, in September 2020, I published and released my first book! It is titled This is Me! Daily affirmations for Children. Affirming is extremely important and I believe it should be started at an early age. Affirmations help to promote self-esteem, self-confidence and positive attitudes. Self-affirming provides motivation and encouragement when one is not feeling at their best. My husband and I started affirming our daughters while they were still in the womb. We started speaking wisdom, life and abundance to them before they were born.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth ride, lol! The road to entrepreneurship is rough with tough obstacles but one must be diligent and steadfast. Just trying to establish a brand is a challenge but I am continuously learning my way and pressing through. Other challenges such as marketing, budgeting, self-doubt, impatience and inconsistency arise as well. Nonetheless, whether you are new to the road of entrepreneurship or you’ve been in it for years, keeping a positive mindset is key. I choose to counteract the challenges with how I can conquer them to gain the victory. I think positively and surround myself with other like minded entrepreneurs and positive thinkers. When obstacles come about, I simply adjust my crown, remind myself of my why, do some self-affirming, pray and refuse to give up!
Nu & Harp – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have an online boutique that offers quality merchandise for children and adults at an affordable price. I’m most proud of me not quitting. This business is very competitive and can be stressful at times but my desire to achieve my goals is greater than the feeling of giving up.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment for me has been the release of my book. Seeing my name on the cover of a book feels so surreal!
