Meet Tiffany Verot of The Memory Quilt Company in Alvin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Verot.

Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am the owner of The Memory Quilt Company. I have been a quilter, artist, crafter and maker for as long as I can remember. Quilting has been a passion for a good part of my life for many years. I knew there was a need to share the idea of preserving our memories in a useful, practical way. We all have those boxes of shirts that we are “going to do something with” tucked away in closets and storage spaces. Why not turn them into a quilt that we will use and enjoy for many years! I started TMQCo in May of 2019 when I relocated to my current area. Our company has laid down roots in the gulf coast area and we have met many wonderful people along the journey. Our clients truly become like family and although we may not meet the recipient of each quilt directly, we always get to know them in some small way by the shirts and clothing we are making into their very own memory quilt. I contribute the growth and progress of The Memory Quilt Company to the amazing community and businesses we have been fortunate to be part of. We are excited and looking to the future and offering more products and services to serve our clients and community.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Business ownership is definitely not a smooth road! And wouldn’t life be boring if it were! There are so many struggles with owning a small business, yet each and every struggle makes us think, analyze and sometimes re-route a thought or decision. The current season we have been experiencing since last spring has proven to be very difficult and many struggles and roadblocks have resulted from it. This is when we grow, not only in business but in life! We think outside of the box, we get even more creative, we make it work! Life as well as business is truly what you invest in, you will see in return. As a business owner, you will work harder and longer, feel more stress and anxiety, and take rough times more personally… but I wouldn’t have it any other way! This is my business. It reflects every bit of me and my desire to provide products and services to my community and I will continue to make it great!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Memory Quilt Company – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Memory Quilt Company creates custom one of a kind quilts using your shirts and clothing. Shirts from schools, activities, sports, vacations, collections are just a few ideas. Memory quilts make wonderful gifts for birthdays, graduation, to commemorate special events and holidays. We make in memorandum quilts from loved ones lost. Custom pillows are also a great idea if you don’t have enough shirts for a full quilt. All those baby onesies you saved.. yes we do onesie quilts as well from those tee-tiny clothes of your kiddos when they were babies.

We start each order with a client consultation and discuss design options and expectations so that every quilt is exactly what our client expects and more. Our clients are part of the process from start to finish. We pride ourselves on customer service and care.

A quilt from TMQCo consists of three layers, whereas a blanket only has two layers; the top and bottom sewn together and not made for comfort and durability.

TMQCo Three Quilt Layers consist of the following:

Top Quilt Layer — This layer is made up of all the t-shirts and materials you have provided, including the 100% quilters cotton border fabric we provide. The shirts are stabilized using 100% cotton interfacing for softness and lifetime stability.

Middle Quilt Layer — The batting or “cotton” layer is here. We use and 80/20 unbleached cotton/poly blend.

Bottom Quilt Layer — This is the “back” of your quilt. We use 100% quilters cotton fabrics for softness and durability.

These layers are then quilted together using our HQ Professional Long Arm quilting machine using a variety of stitching techniques. Once the quilt is quilted, it is then bound with 100% quilters cotton fabric that finishes your quilts for a lifetime of enjoyment.

The Memory Quilt Company quilts are made to be used, loved and last a lifetime.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The Memory Quilt Company does have some great plans for the near future. We hope to create new space for a unique destination shopping experience. Partnering with other local businesses and restaurants, this will be a great place to enjoy shopping, art, and experience our local area and it’s offerings!
