Meet Todd Hughes of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Hughes

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. I learned the art of preparing delicious “New Orleans Inspired Dishes” from the Phenomenal Women who raised me, My Grandmother (Mazie), My Mother (Pamela) and my five aunts: Debra, Brenda, Janice, Lesia and Karen. Each and every one of them played very vital roles in my life and provided the ingredients for my brand “Todd’s Cajun Cuisine”.
By way of New Orleans, Living in Houston, Texas. I launched Todd’s Cajun Cuisine Catering in 2016. With great success from the City of Houston and surrounding areas, I realized that I was building a very successful brand and that my customers enjoyed my delicious cuisine. Fast forward to 2020, I was excited to launch my very first “Cajun Seasoning”. Fast forward to 2023, we now have a total of four signature Cajun Seasonings. Todd’s Cajun Seasoning, Todd’s Cajun Vegetable Seasoning, Todd’s Cajun Lemon Pepper Seasoning and Todd’s Cajun Seafood Seasoning. and we also have launched “Three Signature Barbecue Sauces as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not an easy road. Especially starting a brand new business. Launching my Cajun seasoning line during the pandemic was extremely hard. It was very difficult to partner with various vendors during that time because we were on lock down and some business were closed temporarily. However, with the encouragement and well wishes from my family and closet friends I kept the faith and kept moving forward with my vision. Everyday I am continuously learning and thinking of new and exciting concepts to expand my brand.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently I am the Regional HR Manager for five Behavioral Hospitals in the Houston and Dallas markets. With four hospitals here in the Houston area and one in the Arlington/Dallas area. I am the first point of contact for all licensed and Management/ Director opportunities for every hospital. Managing my career and my business can be challenging at times but I love where my career and my business are headed for sure. What I am most proud of is obtaining my Master Degree in 2017. That accomplishment provided me with the tools I needed to start a business and propel my career to the next level.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have always wanted more for my life. Being raised in the Desire Project of New Orleans, L.A. I really did not have mentors. My grandmother was a very strong woman and I definitely learned how to survive and go after everything that I wanted from her for sure. If I needed to give credit to anyone it would be her “Mazie Lee Burris”. My heavenly angel! Of course I have many supporters including my family and closest friends as well.
