Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonia Griffin.
Tonia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
One day my mother and I were remembering old times about how she used to always help others in our family and community. That was the day a seed was planted and I began thinking about how I could help others and serve others. My mother passed in 2013 and I was facing retirement from my job of 35 years, so I began to visualize what I needed to do. I discovered serving was my purpose in life, Khambrel Foundation was founded in August of 2015.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road was very tough in the beginning trying to figure out where to jump in and get started once you began the vision and mission. The question became where do you start first? I had no idea where to began so, I started with the very thing my mother was known for and that was “giving people donated clothes, helping families eat from leftovers she would receive from the rich families she took care of and giving her last $!”. Once anything hits the ground running the problem became help, it’s hard to get people to buy into your new vision and mission especially starting out. It became important to find Volunteers that loved promoting kindness and helping our community.
Please tell us about Khambrel Foundation.

We don’t believe in reinventing the wheel but strategically aligning ourselves with organizations with a similar mission as Khambrel Foundation maximizing resources and making a bigger impact.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
At this point, I would make a few adjustments but for the most part, I immediately obtained a coach and mentor to help guide me through various obstacles and help me keep my vision clear. Whether officers or volunteers, it will always be hard to obtain/keep consistent help and find those who are as passionate about Khambrel Foundation as you are.
