Meet Tracey Boyce of Perry Boyce in Brooklyn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Boyce.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tracey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At Perry Boyce, we firmly believe that top quality home goods and textiles should not be out of a modern professional’s price range. That is why we have developed a lifestyle brand that offers products of high-caliber quality while still being light on the pocket for you, our fellow consumers and me. Our current offering includes scented candles and room sprays, as well as bath salts and a couple of funky kits- perfect for gifting.

Our products offer an on-trend take on everyday home products, offering clients the modern style of home living through collective themes and settings. The main purpose of our brand is to create affordable luxury home goods, while still maintaining that certain standard of quality that has been set by bigger and more expensive brands.

I’ve always had a strong desire to make luxury home items more affordable. I created Perry Boyce to do just that. I was tired of seeing what I deemed “insane” prices attached to beautiful home goods & gifts, so I set to work designing a range of products that are unique, functional and of the highest quality. I’ve combined my passion for affordable street style and my understanding of business to bring you a unique line that I know you’ll love.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Finding a balance between my day job from when I first started the company was actually the hardest. I would come home from my 9-5, then get started on creating formulations for the scents right away. I would stay up until two, sometimes 3 am and get up again for work a couple of hours later. It was exhausting! Being that I come from an artist background, I loved being able to design legit everything from scratch- logo, labels, photos, etc. I will admit, though, I tended to overdo it sometimes.

Please tell us about your business.
Perry Boyce is an online fragrance company offering urban luxe + eclectic home scents and gifts to consumers wanting to create that unique home environment. We thrive on giving style conscious individuals access to an attainable urban luxury lifestyle, one scent at a time.

We currently hand make all of our candles, sprays and travel kits. I’ve recently started a collaboration with another woman owned brand, Stationed by hand, for the notebooks that we carry in our WKNDR kits. I also have every intention of creating a textile component of the brand, bringing in my own pattern designs onto fabric and making them into other home goods such as pillows, throws, travel pouches etc.

I am most proud of my perseverance and attention to brand detail. Before I started the company, I took a year to really focus and narrow down what I wanted to offer. I created a five year goal list of things I wanted to accomplish for the brand and I am consistently hitting those goals.

What sets me apart from others is that while I welcome all sales, I don’t want people to buy just because they can- I want people to buy because they truly want to experience the product. I would never want someone to grab a candle, for instance, and choose a scent that seems popular. I’m rather they choose the scent that makes them feel good- I love helping them visualize which room to place the candle in, during what type of day, which day of the week etc. There’s just something magical about envisioning your experience.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Definitely my husband, Eloy. He has been with me since before I even had the concept of Perry Boyce and has been there to help support me in building the brand. From being my scent tester to selling in my place at markets where I became double-booked (sometimes on purpose), he has helped me through it all. I also have a few close friends that have watched me and helped me with the brand. They’ve seen me overjoyed and they’ve seen me bummed out. But the real ones have ALWAYS had my back and they continually push me to do better. My parents, of course, have helped me financially and morally. They fully support and love that I named the company after them. They get excited when I tell them about markets.
