Today we’d like to introduce you to Traci Miller.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Traci. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in the hair industry when I was 15 years old as a receptionist. I became a hairdresser at 18. I built a full clientele my first year. At the age of 28, I opened a salon with two partners. We built a million dollar salon the first year in business. Our partnership dissolved. Heartbroken by what had happened I then went to be a booth renter and later a salon suite renter.
I have a passion to help women entrepreneurs in the hair industry. I built Salon Sophisticate to help women salon owners. Many stylists are single moms and don’t always make ends meet. My e-course called The Wealthy Stylist will be out this week. A simple system to a six-figure income. This is geared to the stylist or the owner. I believe all hairdressers should be making six figures working part-time. How? Find your ideal client. Work the hours you want, give incredible customer service, leave home at home.
I am saddened as I see the mom and pop shops closing every day. We need these. People right out of school can hardly afford to work on their own. They need the support of a salon environment. While studio suites are good for some, they are not good for all.
Many stylists are salon owners. They are generally creatives but not business people. I go into salons and help put systems in place for retail sales, inventory control, stylist incentives, customer experience, decor, front desk support, stylist support and the list goes on. We have to remember Hair Beyond The Chair.
I want to see fewer salons closing and owners keeping their passion they started their business with.
Keeping America Beautiful One Salon At A Time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it sure hasn’t been smooth. After my lawsuit and partnership going down the tubes, it makes you take a long hard look at yourself. But, if you want something bad enough, you will find a way to make it work. It took quite a few years for me to get over the devastation of losing my business and realizing who your friends really are.
A big challenge I have is getting in front of the ideal salon owner. They are busy, tired and burned out. All the more reason to hire me to take them back to where they thought they would be when they opened their business.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Salon Sophisticate – what should we know?
My company is Salon Sophisticate. I am a salon consultant/coach. I work with owners to make their salons successful from the front door to the back door. I am known for my straightforward thinking and talking. You hire me to make you money. That’s what I do. We find out where your gaps are at and we fix it.
I am most proud of my client’s success when they follow the plan I give them. My latest salon hardly sold retail. I put a contest and training in place and the second month, they sold more than they sold the whole previous year. That was such a win and something to be proud of.
What sets me apart I believe are my core values and that I am here for the salons 100%. I want nothing more than to see them be successful and live the dreams they have always had.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Integrity. I give you everything I have. Including 30+ years of experience. I have built my hair and consulting business on honesty. I won’t give you what you don’t need.
