Tracy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
*Color!* energizes and inspires me. I am a sucker for blush roses, rosy cheeks, and a glass of rose – just cuz of how enchanting & delightful the potion’s hue is. I turn green with envy when I spy a fabulous velvet olive sofa. “What’s your favorite color?” is a question that thrills, goads and terrifies me all at the same time. Turn back the clock 13 years to an era when I realized I was suffering from adornment fatigue. I had been wearing a traditional (read: cream, safe) strand of pearls since adolescence, and I found myself itching to add baubles to my repertoire that were vibrant and chromatic. Not being able to find bijoux that felt right for me – discerning, yet affordable; original, but still stylish; flirty & fun, with the proper amount of savviness – I decided to take gemstone matters into my own hands and produce what I was envisioning. I wore my first sparkling lariat when my daughter was a toddler in a stroller; Lily now has a driver’s license.
Lariats By Lily is no longer the pop-up shop on our dining room table; over a decade ago the adventure moved to a studio space that functions both as a workshop and as a boutique. I am fortunate to have had local/national/international clients, inventory in select stores in the U.S., and ever-changing opportunities to share my art with new and varied audiences. My thirst for color-expression is constantly being fulfilled by working with the dynamic and brilliant gems that define my designs.
Has it been a smooth road?
The amount of cheering from the sidelines that I have felt has been tremendously exciting and an embarrassment of riches. From early on, I have been incredibly blessed with having a loyal following, women-supporting-women support, and patrons from hither and yon who prop up my homegrown business.

I see Lariats By Lily as a spirited little handmade gemstone jewelry line that prides itself on embracing a whimsical twist on the classic. With an uncompromising commitment to quality and customer service, I strive to make necklaces, bracelets and earrings that are plucky, playful & pretty. I handpick with care every stone that I use to make jewels that can be worn a variety of creative and fashion-forward ways – i.e., layered, matchy matchy sets, the opposite of matchy matchy sets, etc.
My lariats are long necklaces with unattached ends that can be tied, knotted, or looped to make a fantastic dangle that suits one’s personal taste. My long necklaces with clasps can be styled single-stranded, doubled, tripled as a choker, or wrapped as a bracelet. My shorter necklaces, earrings and bracelets stretch from charming & delicate to full-of-moxie to overloaded with luxe. My target demographics are youngsters & grandmas, hipsters & starlets, court jesters & queens. The mishmash of people who have responded so graciously to my work is what I am most proud of as a company. My friends have become clients, and my clients have become friends. My hope is to provide a wink and a bit of captivating magic through the dazzles of my creations.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Decisions! Decisions! Decisions! Houston has sooooo many choices for just about everything….where to live, what ethnic food to eat, which museums to explore. Houstonians do suffer through grueling humid summers with no beautiful mountains to climb. But we also have the fortuity to interact with the friendliest people from all different backgrounds and experience how this contributes to Houston’s boundless cultural tapestry. I love seeing people leave their comfort zones to relish in the amusement park that is at our fingertips.
