Today we’d like to introduce you to Abida Fatima.
Abida, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a full-time college student that is pursuing marketing as my major. I started my Instagram page @chicstyleandlatte as a hobby initially, but then it slowly turned into a lifestyle. I have always been obsessed with fashion and beauty, so I love styling myself in a very trendy yet affordable way. Lately, with all the innovation in fashion and changing consumer habits, there are so many options where people can go and create their unique style. I wanted to show the world that you don’t have to own expensive branded clothes to look fabulous!
I had a vision of what I wanted to do with my page, creating trendy styles and aesthetic looks that would draw an audience. I love my followers, they have given me immense love and support so I do my best to post as much as I can and provide them with not only good looking content but an honest review of products as well.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There is a famous saying by Frederick Douglas, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” Because I love what I do, I don’t think of it as a struggle, there has been a few ups and downs related to balancing college work and blog posts. I would also say the only challenge I’ve had is organically growing my following, and I don’t believe in buying my followers, and I always do my best to reward my loyal followers.
My only advice to women who are starting out in their journey, is that do what you love and what your passion is, you are never too young or too old by following your heart and your dreams, and no matter what, always be yourself!
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a full-time student that is majoring in marketing, I would say that I work as a part-time fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger. I’d say I’m still putting myself out there to be known among one of Houston’s top fashion and style bloggers, and I am and always will be a student of fashion.
What sets me apart from others is that I proudly post content relating to my Indian culture and roots along with American culture. I do everything that portraits me as a person.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I love listening to podcasts and “the Ikonns” are my favorite. They are so inspirational about life, love, and travel.
