Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Seippel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always loved fashion and knew that I wanted to make a career out of my passion. After I graduated from the University of Colorado – Boulder, I moved to San Francisco to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I graduated from FIDM with a degree in Visual Communications and shortly thereafter, started working as an assistant buyer for a local atelier. During this time, I started styling friends and family for events in the city and loved seeing the confidence they gained from finding the perfect outfit. I also enjoyed working 1-1 with people, not to mention, who doesn’t love shopping?
When life brought me to Houston in 2013, I decided to make a career out of my styling hobby and thus, Ashley Nicole Style was born. A year later, I started my fashion blog after having several clients urge me that I should share my wardrobe/styling tips and tricks with a broader audience. My blog has worked hand-in-hand with my business and opened several doors for me, and given me some fantastic opportunities.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are definitely ups and downs to being an entrepreneur and working for yourself. One thing I wish I’d known when I started is that there is no ‘off’ button – you’re always working, 24/7/365! That being said, I truly believe Houston is a wonderful place to start a business. When I first had the idea to start my styling business, everyone was so willing to help and share any of their insight and resources. It was really nice to have that sense of community, especially when diving into the unknown! Never be embarrassed to ask for help, advice or others opinions, they can be your greatest asset.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ashley Nicole Style – what should we know?
As a stylist, I provide my clients with the opportunity to be their best self and represent themselves in the way the dress. People underestimate clothing, but it not only has the power to make you look good but feel good, as well. Whether it’s a corporate client or a stay-at-home mom, I approach each client as an individual and curtail my job to best fit their needs. I provide several different services, ranging from closet cleanouts, wardrobe overhauls, photo shoot and editorial styling, as well as creating lookbooks and packing for trips.
As far as my blog goes, I started out focusing solely on fashion, but I have branched out and now include home decor and decorating tips, lifestyle inspiration and travel. My love of travel and fashion go hand-in-hand. My passion for fashion has been strengthened and inspired by other cultures and countries, since the day I first stepped foot on an airplane. Traveling to other countries, including six of the seven continents (I still need to get Antarctica checked off my list!), has allowed me to see what colors, materials and styles make each place unique and different. Like the world, I want my personal style to be one that is always evolving. My blog has opened so many doors for me that I could have never imagined. I am partnering with companies that I have always loved and getting paid for it. It’s a really exciting time. I’m really proud of how far I have brought my brand in five short years and cannot wait to see what’s next!
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Never give up! I truly believe in the quote, “If at first, you don’t succeed try, try again.” No one is an overnight success, but if you continue to learn and educate yourself on how to be your best and make your business the very best it can be, it’ll be so rewarding when you get there.
