Meet Trailblazer Brittni Schroeder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittni Schroeder.

Brittni, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In May of 2017, our 14 years old son passed away in a tragic accident. Although his time here was short, he touched many people with his kindness and compassion. He was a charmingly sensitive boy with an electric personality. He had a deep connection to God, his family, and his many friends. Gage was a precocious old soul who often made friends with toddlers, teens, and adults alike. Hyper-aware of the struggles of others, he offered inclusion and kind words to the friendless and loved making people laugh.

He was a once-in-a-lifetime kid who made a profound impact and will never be forgotten.

Amazed by the outpouring of love and compassion following Gage’s death, Our family started a scholarship fund in his name for those who wanted to offer support. Thus, began the Gage Schroeder Compassion Foundation and the roots of The Compassion Club.

After the funeral, our home remained filled with teenagers—all wanting to honor their friend and grieve alongside his us. We founded Compassion Clubs in the local elementary, middle, and high schools to help his friends and siblings grieve and heal through service, kindness, and compassion. Hundreds of kids gathered weekly to participate. Soon, people from all over the country reached out, asking how they could initiate Compassion Clubs in their own schools. We created a curriculum to enable others to be a part of this amazing movement.

Has it been a smooth road?
Grieving the loss of a child is a journey no one wants to be on. The pain is indescribable, but at the end of the day I make the choice of how I want to live my life and I have chosen happiness. I have found peace and healing through service and compassion given to me and also given BY me. I found so much growth and peace through helping others.

We’d love to hear more about The Compassion Club.
We started a non-profit and within the non-profit, I speak at schools, youth groups, and other youth organizations. We help start and implement Compassion Clubs in those organizations. We encourage and help promote random acts of kindness and compassion within schools, homes, and communities.

Outside of the non-profit, I am a certified Confidence Coach. I work with young adults by helping them build confidence by providing them with tools and knowledge of their own self-worth. I have created a program that empowers youth and helps them achieve their goals.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women today have so many opportunities to make a difference. We have been given so many innate skills that help us help others. There platforms that are available to people all over the world. I believe women are more and more starting to find their voice, but it’s our responsibility to make it heard. We have the capability of doing whatever it is we decide we want to do. The question is how bad do we want it?
