Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Aguilar.
Carolina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
This all started on a whim, I had a serious obsession with cheese (I still do). Any kind would satisfy my taste buds. So like any crazed fan, I would look up different pages on Instagram and that’s when It all started. I came across Charcuterie pages. I was mesmerized with how beautiful they were plated, the different colors and variations. My husband’s birthday was around the corner and I was ready to try my hand at it. I went and got my supplies and was ready to display. Everyone at the party was impressed, from that day forward I made one every weekend, after two months straight of cheeseboards back to back, my husband suggested I start selling them. At first, I was quick to say no. This is just a hobby. He looked at me and said a very expensive hobby. I thought, well maybe I can start an Instagram and see how that goes. The first night, I laid in bed so proud beaming from ear to ear showing my husband time after time I got a new follower. People started reaching out for pricing and I gave in and started selling them.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Its been a smooth road so far. Thankfully, my Instagram has taken off, I have reached a great following in such short amount of time. One thing I say to anyone looking to put their talents on display. DO IT. Take that leap. Nothing in this world is promised! Even if its an Instagram account that you start to display your talents, a YouTube channel to get your viewers to know you. If you work hard for what you want, anything is possible.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about CharcuterieBoardHTX – what should we know?
The other day my husband and I were out on a walk around the neighborhood and I was telling him how all of this is a dream and how around six months ago, I was at what I thought a dead-end job not knowing what my next move was. I was going to be 30 with nothing to show for. Soon after, I got a promotion in a totally different department at work and started my Instagram page all within days of each other. Things started rolling and I am truly so grateful for that standing period. I know we rush to try and figure everything out right then and there. Time is all you need to figure life out. Everything falls into place the way its suppose to happen. I’m so thankful for him, he’s always been great at pushing me to my limits and telling me to go for it. Sometimes that’s all we need, someone to push us to take that first step.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Be You! Be proud of yourself for trying, even when it hurts. It takes a lot to be the kind of woman who challenges herself to change. So keep taking the steps. Because you’re getting better every single day, even when it doesn’t feel that way. We have so much social media bogging down our image of what beautiful really means. Be confident in who you are and smile big! You will always win if you are genuine.
