Meet Trailblazer Cassandra Luna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Luna.

Cassandra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started when I was 13 years old. Photography was one of my main aspirations… taking self-portraits and posting them online in a so-called popular website at that time, “Fotolog and Myspace” was my first start as a so-called “model” after some time, I gained followers and decided to sign up to a modeling school/agency.

Since then, I combined my love for photography and modeling.

After some years of posting, a follower asked if I was available to be hired as a photographer. I, of course, told her, “YES!” felt so lucky that people could see potential in my photography. She was my first so called “client” at age 15. (Now, almost turning 26 – August 5th.)

Went from taking self-portraits to shooting other people and getting paid for it.

Soon, time passed and I became well known in Reynosa Tamaulipas Mexico.

Made a habit of organizing Runway Shows celebrating my anniversaries as a photographer.

Gathered my clients/models that had worked with me at the time and made them part of my events.

Everyone supported my vision so much plus a lot of talented dancers, makeup artist and DJ’s who also were happy to be part of these events.

I can only say, I am very grateful for all these people that have believed in me and helped me become better every day.

Besides all that, at school everyone knew me as the fashion/weird girl… always wearing high heels, took my strange pets (crabs) to class and French Vanilla cappuccino was always my morning drink… after drinking all of it, I would remove the label and draw in the dry ice cups. People often asked me for personalized cups and I would gift them.

I have always enjoyed creating and being artistic… oh, and scary movies… so one day, I decided to draw a face on a notebook and apply paint over it… it wasn’t bad after all! I had created a creepy scary monster.

From a paper, I went to actually apply paint to the skin. I now had become a self-taught Special Effects Makeup Artist… gathered the cheapest, non-toxic material to create my art pieces. Followers and friends loved the result and now, I also do it for a living.

Everything is possible if you practice, practice until you make it! And, I bet you now can imagine the rest.

Besides modeling, photography, drawing, SFX makeups… I also act, Former Weather Forecast/Reporter and enjoy dancing Latin music (salsa, merengue, cumbias, bachata, a little of belly, too).

I have now 12 years modeling, 10 years taking photos, 8 years doing SFX Makeups and acting I’m here and there, a total of 1 year of experience.

I recently moved to Houston, Tx. I have 8 months living here by myself with my 3 chihuahuas and starting from zero.

Looking for bigger challenges and expanding myself, trying for more people to get to known me as the “Multi-Talented Cassimoon”

Some ask me, “Why ‘Cassimoon”?
Cassimoon is a nickname my 4th-grade teacher told me, Mr. Mayers…

“Oh, Miss Cassandra Luna… now, I will call you “Cassi Moon”
And since then, the nickname stuck to me and has become my artistic name.

A tip for all the popular, beautiful ladies… always make sure you are MORE THAN LOOKS.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth.

I have been rejected, put down, sexually harassed, ignored and instead of stopping, I just become stronger.

My advice is, be friendly, always, no matter the situation. One day, the world goes around and they could be back to you asking for forgiveness.

Treat others like you would like to be treated.

Don’t think you are on top or better than the rest.
Be prepared, EXTRA prepared to be rejected.

Don’t be scared to go to castings, move, apply. Things will not come to you, you have to search for your goals yourself.

You can be copied but personality and principals are what makes us different from the rest.

I am also a drug/alcohol-free person which has made me have rough times and more rejection.
Having a father which wasn’t the greatest example at my early age, alcohol is an enemy in my life.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Always aim for goals, practice, never stop learning and be open to new challenges.
