Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Aguilera.
Christina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been in the beauty industry since I was 14 years old. Started out doing laundry for a local spa, worked my way up to front desk then front desk manager. Once I graduated high school, I enrolled in a beauty school to be an esthetician. Skincare and makeup have always been a passion of mine. I’ve worked in a couple spas, have experience in laser hair removal and have also worked for a plastic surgeon. After performing facials for a few years, my hands started giving me problems (carpal tunnel). I had to step away from behind the table. I was given the opportunity to manage a salon and spa where I learned so much of how to run a business. I decided to take a year off from the spa world to try the medical field. That was short-lived. I missed the beauty industry.
Fast forward a few years. Summer of 2018, iWAX Studio was born. Best decision I have made! Running my own business is hard yet so rewarding. The knowledge and skills I have learned over the last 20 years have helped me build something I can be proud of. Helping people feel beautiful makes it that more rewarding.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The decision to start my own company was the hardest part. The idea of the unknown of what could happen weighed heavy on my mind but the confidence my family gave me pushed me in the right direction. The setting up of my space was easy. I have been in the industry long enough to know what supplies I needed. The hard part was the technically part learning apps, social media, marketing. Family and friends reached out to help. I used all the recourses I could. One person helped with apps. Another sent me an email with google, yelp and marketing tips. Today we have thousands of people just a click away ready to share their knowledge. Find a social media group for business or people that share you are interested in the business you are going into and ask them for advice. Also find groups you are not knowledgeable in, for me a financial group to ask questions about taxes, money managing.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about iWAX Studio – what should we know?
I am an Esthetician. I specialize in full body waxing. My passion is eyebrow shaping and Brazilian waxing. I’m known to be professional, consistent and detailed with my work. I am proud of the direction my company is going in a great reputation and expanding my brow services. I feel like my passion to perfect eyebrows sets me apart, being consistent and detailed, also keeping up to date with the beauty industry what’s new, what look are people into.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
Past spa business owners in my career have inspired me. They allowed me to be part of their business and showed me how to run a successful company. Guiding and helping me run their business knowing one day I would be on my own. Women supporting women is a strong and beautiful thing to be able to experience.
