Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Marshall.
Janelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I opened my private practice in December 2013, about six weeks after my first child was born. Through the years, I’ve steadily increased my clientele and have been operating at full-time capacity since June 2018. I’m currently paneled with 10 insurance and EAP providers.
I see an array of English and Spanish speaking clients, including children, adolescents, adults, and couples.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth! Between life, motherhood, maintaining a full-time job in the early stages, and learning the ins and outs of running a private practice, I’ve definitely experienced my share of obstacles. My advice for young women is to be fearless in your quest for knowledge. Ask questions! Anyone who knows me knows that I have no problem asking anyone a question. Ask questions, and make an effort to gravitate towards like-minded people. Who you surround yourself with as you start this journey will affect you more than you know.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Marshall Gray Counseling Services – what should we know?
I’m a solution-focused therapist that specializes in anger management, stress management, and communication skill-building. My clients range from children and adolescents to adults and couples. I’m also fluent in Spanish, which grants me the privilege of serving the Latinx population.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Within the black and brown communities, female clinicians outnumber the men. I personally don’t see any barriers within my profession.
