Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Kramlich.
Kristen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I got married, my husband made my wedding necklace and I became fascinated with the process. At the time, I was working for a software company and picked up wire wrapping and beading as a hobby. I kind of jumped into it head first and within about a year, I was teaching myself beginning metalsmithing. In 2009, I got laid off from my software job and decided to make jewelry my full-time career. I’ve evolved over the years, mostly, because I don’t like standing still and love learning new skills, which is a part of the reason I chose fLuxe as a business name during the rebrand of my business in 2015. I’ve been very lucky to have a community receptive to what I have to offer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth is not a word I would ever use when one is starting and running a business from scratch. It requires hard work and certainly longer hours than I have ever worked anywhere before. Learning to budget on the inconsistent income a growing business is rough at first, but the benefits far outweigh the difficulties.
Persistence and staying true to yourself and your vision is vital. As business owners, we are selling ourselves as well as our work. Stay true to who you are and what you believe in.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about fLuxe Jewelry – what should we know?
fLuxe Jewelry is a brand for statement makers. It’s for those who don’t want to fade into the background and enjoy being front and center. All of my pieces combine bold colors and striking shapes, all while still feeling feminine. Each piece is a tiny work of art that I, personally conceived and created. They all start out as a sketch and are all uniquely me.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Persist, persist, persist. Starting anything takes time, work and determination. The winds will not always blow your way, but you can certainly make wonderful things happen if you put your heart and soul into it.
