Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTeace and Fred Cuellar.
LaTeace and Fred, please share your story with us.
We created Diamond Cutters International because of love. Diamond Cutters International is the only diamond and colored stone cutting house in the southwestern United States. We supply over 200 jewelry stores with diamonds but also help our private clientele with their jewelry needs. Through that, we were able to pursue multiple creative ventures, including Four Triad Productions in order to create award-winning movie short Charlie’s Gift and award-winning documentary Straws, to name a few. We also have a championship ring division and have been blessed to have designed and manufactured over 25 championship rings, including for the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, New York Yankees, and Detroit Redwings.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No. It hasn’t. Trying to find myself after creating a successful business with my husband has been a challenge, in particular with trying to keep a balance between the business and my own personal pursuits. I find as women, we put ourselves on the backburner, or rather, everyone else first. With that said, I wouldn’t change a thing because when it comes down to it, my family always comes first. What I would recommend to young women of today is to find your own self before you try to have a relationship. Make yourself your best you and find out what makes you happy before you pursue a family life so you can give them everything you have to offer.
We’d love to hear more about Diamond Cutters International.
At my core, I am an actor. Diamond Cutters International enabled me to discover this passion. I am most proud of being in Django Unchained and not only acting beside Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L Jackson, and Kerry Washington but being able to hold my own alongside them. In addition, I am also incredibly proud of the short film we created titled Charlie’s Gift. My husband and I were able to make a film based on a real-life experience and bring the moments back to life. I believe what sets me apart is that I am very straightforward, compassionate, and the fact that I recognize when to ask for help. We can accomplish so much more when we work as a team.
A quote that resonates with me is an African proverb – “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Well, for me, no one person has all the answers. I have been blessed to have a great group of kind, supportive and loving women that I can rely on. Look to your friends and people you admire.
