Meet Trailblazer Shannon Sherrell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Sherrell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shannon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my business in 2009, while I was still in high school. At the time, my business was known as Hair By Shannon Sherrell. In March of 2018, My first salon open, SSBeauty Bar. January of 2019, SSBeauty Spa opened and by July of 2019 SSBeauty Supply & Hair Store opened. Within the three locations, we have Taylore Jemi, Styles By Angelia, Yata The Scalp Nutritionist, Chanteria Styles, Nails By Alanis, Rich Luxe Beauty Posh Petals V Steaming & Hair By Shannon Sherrell.

In addition to the many services offered, we sell virgin extensions, hair products and beauty essentials. Hair By Shannon Sherrell was my early start, but through consistency, hard work, diligence, and a good team it has grown into the successful brand SSBeauty.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been an easy road. I’ve had to put myself on the back burner a lot to make sure that the business was flourishing and clients were well taken care of. Owning a small business is far from easy, but if you are passionate about the career path you have chosen to partake in, you will make sure that it flourishes.

Owning a business where you hire independent contractors, it can be tough. There are many different personalities and also many different ways of running a business. As the owner, it can be tough making sure tat everyone is on the same page and also making sure that everyone suits the brand. The hardest part about this was letting people go for the betterment of SSBeauty. Though this is hard, it’s very important that you always put the business/brand and trust that the right people will come and be an asset to your company.

I struggle with is the balance of singing/songwriting, writing and overseeing my mentoring organization. While this may seem like a lot, these are all parts of who I am. I am a stylist, writer, songwriter and a mentor. My mentoring organization is called LADIES and I founded it while studying at Florida State University for my undergraduate degree. This is something near and dear to my heart, just as the other things listed above and with diligence and discipline I manage to give you each thing it’s delegated time. I am a creator at heart and the hardest thing for me to date has been managing time for my creativity.

We’d love to hear more about SSBeauty.
SSBeauty is where we make you feel so, so beautiful. We offer everything from loc extensions, braids, sew-ins, color, natural hair care, silk presses, facials, nails, lash extensions and more. SSBeauty Bar, SSBeauty Spa & SSBeauty Supply & Hair Store are all locates conveniently within the same plaza, so this makes it much easier for our clients to visit each location. We are known for our top of the line work, services and comfortable ambiance. As a company, I’m most proud of our work, intimate setting and comfortable ambiance. What sets us apart from others is our consistency in our work and how we make our clients feel like family. I am most proud of the fact that the brand SSBeauty is about how happy the clients are. Myself and the other stylists within SSBeauty, focus on the clients and not just our own success or happiness. The culture of hair salons around the world has changed to places where stylists brag and can be boastful of how successful they are and SSBeauty prioritizes differently. Our clients are and will always be our main focus.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
There is so much media coverage focused on the challenges facing women today, but we are embarking on a new journey. Women are now taking matters into their own hands and becoming the businesswomen that we were made to be. Women are so much more than wives and mothers, in fact we are every woman, it’s all in us. I feel personally like there is nothing that a woman cannot do. We are firm enough to get our points across, diligent enough to see any business venture through successfully, relatable enough to have good business relationships with our co-workers or employees and strong enough for the ups and downs that come with any career or business.
