Meet Trailblazer Suraya Alma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suraya Alma.

Suraya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had an eye for fashion and styling since I was a kid. I love taking pieces of clothing and styling them in so many different ways. Just never had the confidence to actually start my own fashion blog years ago. I always thought to myself that I wasn’t good enough compared to the fashion influencers and bloggers you see on Instagram. I doubted myself or was too afraid. My friends have always encouraged me to start a blog or a YouTube Chanel because they could count on me to help with styling any piece they threw my way. Finally, it’s 2020 and I think I’m at a place where I’m ready to start this new journey with my new blog and YouTube Chanel. Don’t doubt it’ll be a long and working process, but I’m super excited. Fashion is a way of art to me. To be doing what I love the most is a great way to start a new decade. Can’t wait to show viewers/readers way of art and fashion. As well as helping with the way I style pieces in different seasons. I do also have a heart for decor and cooking, so I plan on incorporating some of that on my blog and YouTube! Everyone is welcome to both with so much excitement and love.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a bumpy road to start a blog whether it’s on Instagram, a website, or YouTube because it took me a couple a tries with Instagram. I always gave up because I felt like I could be better with being creative and all-round just being consistent. Consistency is definitely key with trying to start with the whole social media blog. Not getting to where you want to be can also definitely be demotivating and that as it is makes me sometimes give up (for a little while). I deleted my Instagram about six months ago and I actually just enjoyed not being on it that I didn’t want to go back on it. Although I still wanted to somehow show my love for fashion and share it, I didn’t want to do it through Instagram. Then I decided I can do it through a few different platforms other than Instagram.

So I did the basics of buying a domain, building a website, and as well as a YouTube Chanel. It seems like it’s a lot of work just to start and one of the reasons I never did but it’s not! It’s super simple and with the amazing help of Google you can do ANYTHING you put your mind to. If you don’t want to do it on Instagram, there are so many different platforms if not millions but thousands of people use. We all have excuses for reasons why we shouldn’t or couldn’t do what we want. Someone very close to me always tells me that and it’s true. It’s the reasons it took me so long to finally start something I love without any excuses. My advice would just be as Shia LaBeouf once said “JUST DO IT” . Don’t get discouraged if it might take a while or there are obstacles in the way. Nothing good is ever easy.

Please tell us about Minimal Look Book.
My blog and YouTube will be a combination of a minimal lifestyle, seasonal look books, thrifting, and cooking. Definitely more on the fashion side but I’d love to incorporate a few different things here are there. I’d say I’m known for my sense of styling. Styling is like a puzzle to me. I loved puzzles when I was a kid and I was really good at them too. I built my way up from putting together picture puzzles to puzzling (styling) clothing pieces together. It’s one of those things where it’s not work to me but fun. I get to put my brain to work in a different way and absolutely enjoy it. As a fashion blogger that can provide and help a community with fashion tips and any other way that I can, that alone makes me proud of my platform. My platform is about helping others and being able to show my audience what I love to do. My creativity with styling sets me apart from others because it’s different and minimal. Hence my blogs name. People have been looking for more minimal looks to wear everyday or even for a night out. That’s where I step in and help with that and provide that on my blog/YouTube.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mom, Princess Diana, Allegra Shaw, and Danielle Bernstein also know as WeWoreWhat. My mom because she driven, kind, and a she’s a super mom. Princess Diana has always inspired me with her sense of style through my years of dressing preppy and until now. She’s inspired with some of my minimal looks that I love. Allegra Shaw has been my favorite YouTuber since she started the try on look books back a few years ago. Her looks never cease to amaze me! They’re all so perfect.

Danielle Bernstein is like a goddess in the fashion industry. She has her own bathing suit/clothing line and she recently came out with a book! She inspires me to work as hard and that it took her years to get where she did but she put her mind to it and now she’s a girl boss that I inspire to be one day.
