Meet Trailblazer Takira Black

Today we’d like to introduce you to Takira Black.

Takira, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to Houston only 8 months ago from Norfolk, VA! I graduated last year from Virginia Commonwealth University with my Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies. Yeah! Haha! Pretty much my creative and curious mind forced me into studying multiple disciplines, Mass Communications, and African American Studies.

Throughout my final year in school, I began my makeup journey. I learned about proper skin care and beauty techniques all through YouTube videos. I started practicing every single day to perfect my craft.

When I finally started working at Sephora, after applying multiple times, I was excited to be working in one of the most popular retailers of beauty. I was proud, but soon realized the confidence and joy I could bring to others with my talent and skills, meant the world to me!

I love making others look and feel their best!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a tough road for me. Been on my own and independent for awhile. I have grown into such a powerful and relentlessly strong woman.

Overcoming life’s obstacles, without overthinking the final outcome, will help you live in the moment enough to learn from each experience, and grow to your next level in life. Accepting your downfalls and appreciating each “no”, will build your character to withstand any storm.

I’m a makeup artist specializing in natural and soft glam to full glam looks.

I’m a poet and singer-songwriter.

I am never afraid to be my genuine self and allow my true passion to flow. Whether through makeup artistry, poetry or music, I will never give less than my true self.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Go after what you’re passionate about and don’t look back. Always remember your “why”, why you started in the first place.
