Meet Tran Dang of Si Creative Photography in The Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tran Dang.

Tran, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Australia and have been so lucky to live in a few cities around the world. These places include London UK, Bucharest Romania and now Houston TX! With the love of travel running through my veins, it has allowed me to capture the scenic moments I’ve been so blessed to witness. The images I’ve captured traveling can be viewed on my travel blog (www.letterstowanderlust.wixsite.com/travelguide). And in turn, I decided to turn that love of photography into something more and seize the beauty of people in the moments that are most special to them. Creating the pictures that tell a thousand words is a passion and so is turning a blank piece of canvas into art. I love all forms of being creative and along with my photography, I also now offer my works of art.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road to creating, developing and growing a new business in a new city. It’s been more like a constant roller coaster ride. On which some days can be really discouraging. But I believe that if you have a true love for something, along with hard work and determination, success will follow. The hardest battle has been building a client base and the connections within the relevant industries, especially with being new to Houston. Rejections can be difficult, but sometimes when I feel like I’m being rejected I’m probably being re-directed to something better. What can I say, I’m optimistic!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Si Creative has been in business since June 2016. So a ‘newborn’ in the business world! Photography services offered are portraiture, lifestyle & weddings. I have a journalistic approach to photography. Capturing the moments and emotions felt as they unravel. Catching the warmth, light & shade in those candid instances as they take place in that second. Pictures can tell a thousand words and bring back the feelings of excitement, joy & happiness felt in that space and time. That’s why I love what I do. It’s not just an image, it’s an emotion.

What were you like growing up?
I was the timid, creative kid when I was young. Winning school and local business art competitions. My name once mistaken for a boy and winning the prize for that category. I was 10! Not much has changed (yes, I still sometimes get email replies back titled ‘Mr. Tran’) and I still love being creative in all aspects. The only thing that has changed is that I got over my shyness and I really enjoy getting to know genuine people I meet in my journey. I think that having great supportive friends and family are the foundation of who we are and who we become.
